Well that would bring down my rating considerably! I enjoyed the story though and got a kick out of seeing my profession represented especially dealing with a similar issue. Luckily our small board is great and hands-off.

I really enjoyed the three books in this series. If my memory serves, the author unfortunately passed away, I think even before the third one published.

This is an enjoyable series. The mystery was pretty good and the characters were likable.

I have to agree. One of my biggest peeves is poor editing. I just read a book by a prolific author (15+ multi-book series) that had a character from another of her series pop up for two pages. He seemed to take the place of the town's coroner for the two pages, then gone. Was the scene recycled and no one caught that the name wasn't changed? Is AI assisting in "writing" the multitude of series and additions to those series that come out each year? (The series I was reading has 12 entries to date. The series the pop-in character came from has 40+.)

I get nothing is perfect and a lot of authors don't pay for outside editing, but poor or non-existent editing shows a a lack of respect for readers. I'm not talking about typos which happen here and there (though if there a lot of typos...), but more so about errors similar to the one I noted above or continuity errors from one chapter to another or series errors from one book to another or...

The book/story or character have to be so so good for me to overlook those kinds of errors and enjoy the overall experience. =o/

Mark Baker I've seen authors talk about how characters from one series accidentally pop up in another. One author talked about writing the first page of a new book only to realize she'd used the main character from her other series in it, so she had to rewrite it.

But that's where editing should come into play. I've seen too many traditionally published books that make me wonder what kind of editing is going on, if any.

During COVID I noticed editing seemed to go by the wayside which I understood but it doesn't seem to have come back. No one can spell or use grammar correctly any longer either. I keep flagging "alright" and apparently it's considered acceptable now but when I took English classes in grade school and college writing classes in the 90s, that was not all right. Then it was "alright" if it was dialogue but not in the narration. It's everywhere. The other thing that drives me NUTS is possessive pronouns. My parents' house not my parent's house unless you have only one parent. The Smiths not The Smith's unless you put the Smith's house or something that belonged to the Smiths.

My favorite cozy mystery writer is Jenn McKinlay. She has none of those problems and she was a librarian and she knows how to look things up.

Jade (Plot Twist Lollipops) Status update on High Tea and Misdemeanors! I saw plenty of mixed reviews, so I'm hoping not to be disappointed after a strong start to the story. 🍵

I haven't read that one yet but reading that series is dangerous for the bank account. I always have to head off to the local tea shop, smell everything and then choose my favorites to buy. I recommended the series to the shop owner to recommend to customers.

I immediately searched for local tea shops on Google after finishing this book. So I guess you're right! I became more of a coffee fan once I joined the workforce, but I'm slowly rediscovering my childhood tea-time fantasies.

Barb Not sure the last one counts as a cozy, but I'm including it here anyhow. It kind of reminds me of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, but with a *lot more talk about food :)
