plus three more in a favorite series:

Bone to Be Wild (Sara Booth Delaney, # 15) by Carolyn Haines Bone to Be Wild

Alice I finished Trouble on the Books Trouble on the Books (Castle Bookshop Mystery #1) by Essie Lang by Essie Lang. It was just okay for me. The characters did not do a lot to attract me. I don't think I will be reading book two.

message 1607: by Karen (new)

Karen I feel like a slug. I am way down in items read over last year at this time. =o/

However, I have been reading cozies. I updated my challenge page with my March (and early April) reads (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), to wit...

A Touch of Malice (A Kalli Ballas Mystery, #3) by Kari Lee Townsend ** An Inkling of Evil (A Kalli Ballas Mystery, #4) by Kari Lee Townsend ** Mayhem on the Mind (A Kalli Ballas Mystery Book 5) by Kari Lee Townsend **
From the Kari Lee Townsend series Kalli Ballas/Mind Reader
* A Touch of Malice
* An Inkling of Evil
* Mayhem on the Mind

Murder in the Meditation (A Sunny Meadows Mystery, Book 8) by Kari Lee Townsend ** Cruising Into Danger (A Sunny Meadows & Kalli Ballas Crossover Book 1) by Kari Lee Townsend ** Road Trip to Ruin (A Sunny Meadows & Kalli Ballas Crossover Book 2) by Kari Lee Townsend
From the Kari Lee Townsend series Sunny Meadows/Fortune Teller
* Murder in the Meditation
* Cruising Into Danger -- a crossover with the Kalli Ballas series
* Road Trip to Ruin-- a crossover with the Kalli Ballas series
There hasn't been a new "Sunny" book since book 6. The last two books are crossovers as are the next two. The author is working on a next-gen series featuring Sunny & Mitch's (now--then??--grown) children. I'm looking forward to it, but I really enjoy "Sunny's" series.

Shadow of a Spout (Teapot Collector Mystery, #2) by Amanda Cooper ** The Grim Steeper (Teapot Collector Mystery #3) by Amanda Cooper
From the Amanda Cooper (Victoria Hamilton) series Teapot Collector
* Shadow of a Spout
* The Grim Steeper
Seems to be a three-and-done (nothing new since 2016), but I'd read more in the series if they come. It was just starting to grow on me.

No Roast for the Weary (Coffeehouse Mystery, #21) by Cleo Coyle
From the Cleo Coyle series Coffeehouse
* No Roast for the Weary
So so so good!!! It's a long book, but reads so fast becasue it's so good. Can't wait for the next--and I'm sure it's a year or two away. =o/

I like the mysteries but not so much the characters. Sophie needs to tell Natasha to get lost!

I'm listening to A Study in Murder A Study in Murder (Victorian Book Club Mystery, #1) by Callie Hutton
It's not very period correct, Amy is rather silly and it's taken me 60% of the book to actually get into it!

I knocked off Beyond a Reasonable Donut (Deputy Donut Mystery, #5) by Ginger Bolton Beyond a Reasonable Donut in print much faster. It was enjoyable, I never guessed whodunit but I wish the romance would hurry up and progress. I really like this cat, Dep. I never thought I would say I liked a cat character. She's such a little diva. I didn't know some cats liked to be cuddled and hugged.

Lyla Blue I am listening to A Cherry Sinister Murder by Nancy McGovern & Cyra Bruce.

I just finished The Body in the Bookstore.

QNPoohBear Deck the Donuts Deck the Donuts (Deputy Donut Mystery, #6) by Ginger Bolton

The Christmas charm was nice but the mystery was less high stakes than the previous one. I only figured it out JUST before the characters. I was happy the romance subplot progressed slightly. Slightly... I didn't like the introduction of yet another new assistant without meeting them first. Who's that? What? Why? It's a little weird. Misty has some news she doesn't share with her besties which is also weird.

QNPoohBear We did not love Gone with the Witch Gone with the Witch (Witch Way Librarian Mysteries #5) by Angela M. Sanders . It was way too convoluted and difficult for some members to keep track of who was who. I read it mostly in one night and went back and reread parts of it and I'm still confused. I need to reread one more part. The author needs to dial back the magic, define it and stop writing by the seat of her pants! And Josie needs that courage spell directed at herself!

So far, kind of so-so. The author is definitely a "pantser" so the stories tend to be pretty wild. The magic isn't clearly defined, Josie's still learning, and it tends to interfere with the mystery plot. I like the book magic but not everything she can do. The romance does develop after some shocking plot twists but Josie can't tell him the truth about herself. I do enjoy the Wilfredians though. I especially like Mrs. Garlington who plays the organ and writes poetry and I like Patty's grandkids, Buffy and Thor. Little Buffy is only about 6 and she's a hustler already, the brains of the Buffy and Thor duo.

message 1622: by Cheryl (last edited Apr 28, 2025 06:55PM) (new)

Cheryl I'm reading A Wrinkle in Time, because I'm participating in a challenge to read banned books and it's been banned by some groups for its supernatural themes. I just finished reading James and the Giant Peach, which was banned for the same reason. Next on my list is The Women, for my local library's book club.

However, I can't wait to get back to my favorite cozies. I love the Meg Langslow series, the Bookmobile Car series, and the Cat in the Stacks series. My favorite of all time is the Peter Shandy series by Charlotte McLeod.

Cheryl I agree with you about Charlie and Diesel, so I'll add the other books to my TBR list.

Thanks.

QNPoohBear Finally got to Blame the Beignets Blame the Beignets (Deputy Donut Mystery #9) by Ginger Bolton

The mystery was pretty good but a last minute plot twist was totally bizarre. The murderer was a real wacko. Dep has a larger role in this one and her new nemesis, Gigi, a tiny Yorkshire Terrier, has a starring role.

QNPoohBear The Witch Is Back The Witch Is Back (Witch Way Librarian Mysteries, #6) by Angela M. Sanders

I couldn't put it down. I started listening Friday at work and had to finish with the e-book last night. The mystery of the poisoned pen letters was obvious to me but I didn't guess who the murderer was. The magic was what kept me hooked and I'm mad nothing was resolved at the end. I'm sure I know who Josie's nemesis is but I don't yet have the full picture. I'm going to give this a reread from the beginning tomorrow night or Tuesday afternoon.

message 1646: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear I read half and skimmed the other half of Murder at the Christmas Cookie Bake-Off Murder at the Christmas Cookie Bake-Off (Beacon Bakeshop, #2) by Darci Hannah

It started off OK - better than the first, but by page 40 of the large print edition I was ready to smack Lindsay for her "inner New Yorker" comments. I went to NYC a few months ago and everyone was very friendly and nice. It wasn't dangerous either. (I live in a city, it's dirtier, sketchier and the people are a lot less friendly than New York). Then the plot picked up a bit but derailed a lot. Was anyone else offended by the sexism and portrayal of women in this novel? It was awful and unrealistic.
