Eleanor I love the Magical Bakery series too. Had an email from Bailey a few days ago saying she is waiting for publisher to approve another book in the series. Cross your fingers it gets approved.

Luffy Sempai I'm reading Bedlam in the Blizzard, by Kathleen McKee. A talented writer who uses an average array (ah, alliterated) of words, but is a pro and a gifted storyteller in her own humble way.

QNPoohBear The Diva Steals a Chocolate Kiss The Diva Steals a Chocolate Kiss (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #9) by Krista Davis

OMG chocolate OMG! I had very nice dreams after reading this one. I liked the mystery and managed not to hate the characters. I still think Sophie needs to grow a spine and talk to her exes about their feelings. She also needs to set Natasha straight if Mars won't. Natasha is CRAZY! Thankfully she's off page for most of the book.

Noodles is my favorite too. I REALLY wanted a freakshake after reading the first one. I had to improvise with what I had on hand.

message 111: by Mark (new)

Mark Baker I am on my third cartoon of ice cream after reading that book. It's dangerous to your weight. Noodle and Luis are both wonderful characters. Made me smile the entire way through the book.

Eleanor There are certainly interesting characters in this series. Luis and Noodles are so funny. Those mangoes just kept coming.

QNPoohBear I started A Midsummer Night's Fudge A Midsummer Night's Fudge (A Candy-Coated Mystery Book 10) by Nancy CoCo
I'm not so happy with Allie. She starts asking nosy questions of random people and she says "We should be friends!" and "Can we come in?" to random strangers. Rex already questioned the same people. Then she says she isn't investigating because no one she loves is involved but then can't promise Rex she WON'T investigate. The recipes are pretty random too. Mal is utterly adorable and always and when I picked up my book at the library, there was a cute little white dog in line behind me.

I'm reading Cobblered to Death and the main character kind of annoys me, too, for reasons. Not exactly like your reasons of your main character, but I feel like I can relate!
I remind myself I prefer main characters with flaws and as imperfect people rather than Mary Sues or whatnot, so I'm going with it. But sometimes I am rolling my eyes or want to shout at her! And I kind of want her to get her comeuppance because she's been lying to people and...well...she kind of deserved some blowback. (I am going to be sooooo irritated if there's no repercussions. Especially since she talks about this lie throughout the entire book so far.)
It sounds like you're enjoying your series anyway. I haven't heard of it and might have to check it out.

If you missed it, we are talking about the Shake Shack Mysteries by Dana Mentink. So far, there are just two books:

Pint of No Return (Shake Shop Mystery, #1) by Dana Mentink Pint of No Return
A Sprinkle in Time (Shake Shop Mystery, #2) by Dana Mentink A Sprinkle in Time

That's why we READ about the freakshakes LOL! It's a good theme for a cozy mystery series because in those worlds the characters never get diabetes or become obese! There are so many fudge makers, bakers, ice cream shop owners, pie shop owners, etc. LOL!

This year I have a gift card to the neighborhood ice cream shop/cafe so I am prepared. I will be reading A Sprinkle in Time very soon. The libraries have it on order and in cataloging but it's not ready to check out yet.

Noodles is the heroine's senior rescue dog. Like Trinidad, he was traded in for a younger model. When Noodles was a pup, he was trained to be a service dog but apparently flunked out of the program. He tries to anticipate Trinidad's needs and think of something to comfort her and sometimes his ideas are a little quirky! He's very sweet and lovable though and bonds with a young man with autism. I like how Douglas is just Douglas. There's no label but I recognize the signs of autism. Luis is her Cuban grandfather who arrives on her doorstep and befriends the entire town before Trinidad even knows he's there. He's a hoot.

Cassie Slightly off topic but does anyone know if there is a group for paranormal mysteries on goodreads?

Or are paranormal cozies lumped in with all the other cozies?

This is the best group I've found for paranormal cozies and cozies in general. The group and its members are accepting of various cozy mystery sub genres, active, welcoming and friendly.

This is a cute piece of mindless fluff. I love the setting, the baking (need recipes) and the dog. I don't love the Americanness and the bizarre family tree that doesn't make much sense.

I'm not feeling autumn flavors of ice cream right now as the weather quickly approaches "too hot" summer weather. I'll have to see what else she makes besides apple.
