QNPoohBear A Newlywed’s Guide to Fortune and Murder A Newlywed’s Guide to Fortune and Murder (Countess of Harleigh #6) by Dianne Freeman was so much fun! The murder isn't the central mystery and there were a couple of twists I didn't expect. Love this series so much!

I have two books left in the series and am hesitant to read them - I don't want to say goodbye!

I know. I think he ended at 10. I'm on #8 and will probably wait a good 6 months before I go to #9.

Meg I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this. 🤣I have one series that I finally sped up because the books make me smile and laugh and I couldn't drag it out anymore. Read them all but, fortunately, a new one came out. But I have others I keep stretching out.

Julie Ditton I just finished this month's selection Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop (Beacon Bakeshop, #1) by Darci Hannah . I enjoyed it and foundit much better written than many cozies that I have read lately. I just moved this month's other selection Killer Chardonnay (Colorado Wine Mystery, #1) by Kate Lansing to my currently reading shelf and will start on it today.

I put off reading the last of Julie Hyzy's White House Chef series for a couple of years because I didn't want the series to end :)

QNPoohBear The Cat of the Baskervilles
I'm enjoying learning about the Sherlock fandom. This series isn't TOO Sherlock centered so I enjoy it. It doesn't take Sherlock or Gemma Doyle to decipher the clues about this famous actor. The telltale signs are there and if he doesn't get murdered, he'll just keel over on his own.

message 711: by Julie (new)

Julie Ditton I just finished books 4 and 5 of V.M. Burns' Dog Club Mystery series.
Paw and Order was disappointing. the clues were just not subtle enough and I could see all of the big reveals a mile away. The more recent Sit, Stay, Slay was great. The story was predictable but the clues were more carefully written. The subplots with work, businesses, family matters and several romances were delightful.

message 712: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear A Scandal in Scarlet A Scandal in Scarlet (A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery, #4) by Vicki Delany This one was less Sherlockian and her book recommendations are way off sometimes. The mystery was tough to figure out. I may take a break from this series because Gemma is a little annoying.

message 724: by Julie (new)

Julie Ditton I just finished Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder. I always enjoy V.M. Burns more typical cozies. This new series penned under the name Valarie Burns is a millenial cozy and I had a hard time warming up to the character. too much hashtag for this old lady to enjoy. still I gave it 4 stars.

I am currently laughing my wasy through Private Lies.

message 725: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear Aunt Dimity Goes West picked up after the initial adjustment to a change in location. The setting was really vivid and well-described. Lori managed not to be too annoying (Aunt Dimity even called her out on her quick jumps to wrong conclusions). There's a good mystery there and a twist I didn't expect. A little more paranormal than I expected though.

Alice I finished a delightful paranormal cozy Shifting and Shenanigans Shifting and Shenanigans (Magical Mystery Book Club #1) by Elizabeth Pantley by Elizabeth Pantley. Liza I just finished Cold Clay by Juneau Black. This series is what got me hooked to this genre. I love the writing style of these authors. I devoured the first book Shady Hollow,
Woodland creatures commiting and solving the mystery just has cozy written all over it.

Karen Writing Prompt for Tuesday, July 25, 2023 (from Writers Write).

"Write a conversation between four books on a TBR pile."

Ha! It got me thinking (okay, but not writing...) Do you think they wonder why they're still TBR? Are the too fat? Too thin? Not interesting enough? Cover not pretty enough or alluring enough? Wondering why the ugly one next to them got picked first? What made that book so special?

Thanks for my mid-morning laugh. I love it!

I'm really imaging how the one that I moved to my nightstand only to go back to the bookshelf must be feeling. (I got an ARC I needed to prioritize, had nothing to do with the book itself.)

So... Tossed aside for the new (younger!), unknown (more mysterious??) kid on the block? ;o)

Your comment also got me thinking about how the new-to-me reads sitting in my reader(s) feel as I reread old favorites -- which I've been stuck on for the past few months. Comfort reading??? I don't know, but I haven't read a lot of new-to-me mysteries this year (to date).

Now you have me thinking about this. A couple of my physical bookshelves are packed pretty tightly. Do the other books breathe a sigh of relief when I remove one and give the rest more room? Or are they jealous that they aren't the one/s that were removed?

message 738: by Alice (new)

Alice I finished reading Premeditated Peppermint Premeditated Peppermint (Amish Candy Shop Mystery #3) by Amanda Flower by Amanda Flower. Book 3 of the Amish Candy shop. I enjoy Amish settings books this one is in Harvest, Ohio. Christmas time setting. I enjoyed the first two books more. This one was pretty good. Did really like the ex-boyfriend and his film crew.

Another enjoyable entry in the series but some errors will make me drop my rating.

Julie Ditton After recently finding the Cozy Mysteries group,
I just read Class Reunions Are Murder I enjoyed having a full figured woman as the protagonist. It was interesting to see her character evolve as well as solve a mystery.

This series keeps getting better. I loved the cozy! The history of antique paper and ink was right, the historical mystery was super obvious and the murder mystery kept me reading. I couldn't put it down!

message 749: by Alice (new)

Alice I finished The Inspector and Mrs. Jeffries by Emily Brightwell. and quite liked it. With that said I like cozy mysteries. This book was very cozyish (is that a word?) Not much historical in it other than mentions to queen and Hanscom cabs. I like Mrs. Jefferies a lot and the help in the household who try to help and protect Inspector Witherspoon. I will try book 2.

For Historical mysteries I do like more historical facts in them.
