GothChickVibing Hi,
I'm Elaine and I love reading mysteries. I want to find a group to connect with and chat about all the mysteries I've been reading :)

message 402: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy Hi, all! I'm Chrissy! I've been into various kinds of mysteries since I was a kid and it was the genre I read the most back then, such as Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Boxcar Children, The Baby-Sitter's Club and several children's paranormal ones. I even grew up watching and loving Murder, She Wrote when it was originally airing (which I've heard is considered a cozy mystery series) and now that I'm older, I'm starting to read the books and am loving them as much as the show! So, I haven't gotten to read very many cozies yet, but I hope to more this year and in the coming ones! I've got quite a lot of cozy series on my To Read list that sound awesome! Looking forward to joining in chats with you guys about our interests in cozies!

I loved The Babysitters Club!!! And who doesn't love Murder She Wrote?

I used to read The Boxcar children all the time! I'm so glad to find someone who loves it too! :D

message 405: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy Hi, Helen and Princessjas04!
Indeed, the Baby-Sitters Club and Boxcar Children were both great! I never even got halfway thru them tho, since there's so many in each series and I only got what my school catalogs and libraries had at the time. And I didn't even know at the time (this was in the early to mid 90's) that the Boxcar Children was a much older series and what I was reading were reprintings and that only the first 19 were by the original author! I only read both series up to 1995/1996. Have you guys read any of their books that came out after those years? Were they still as good as before? Did either of you read very much of either series? Can't believe the Boxcar Children ones are still coming out!

And seriously, who doesn't love Murder, She Wrote? LOL It was a favorite of my grandma's and mom's, who are also lovers of mysteries. And I just rewatched the whole series and movies last year! Loved it just as much as the first time! I've always loved Angela Lansbury in all things I've seen her in, but she'll always be Jessica Fletcher (and Mrs. Potts) to me! :) So glad I'm reading the books to be able to continue to enjoy the series! Have you ever read any of them, Helen?

message 406: by Helen (new)

Helen Loveland I haven't read the more recent Babysitters Club books but now you've planted a seed. I will have to look into them for reading with my daughter!

Funny thing about the Murder, She Wrote books; a writer named Donald Bain wrote them. When I first saw one, I remember envisioning Jessica Fletcher/Angela Lansbury with a beard. :)

Ah, so glad to hear it! My mom and I read nearly all the books on my 'Read as a Kid' list on my profile (including the Baby-Sitter's Club and Boxcar Children books) together and I'll always cherish those times! I don't have kids, but if I did, I would be sharing the children's books I'd loved at their age with them too! :)

haha! Now you have me picturing Jessica/Angela that way! Was sad to find out a few months ago that Donald Bain had passed away in 2017! I hadn't heard when it'd happened. But the Murder, She Wrote books continue! There will be 51 by the end of this year, I believe, and he'd written/co-written 48 of them!

Hi, Erin! Glad to meet another Murder, She Wrote and Baby-Sitter's Club series fan! The two cozy series I'm reading right now (besides Murder, She Wrote) are ones I highly recommend! If you like ones with libraries/coastal towns, there's the Lighthouse Library Mysteries (By Book or By Crook is the first one and there's 5 so far), or if you like ones about writers/lake towns, there's the Writer's Apprentice Mysteries (A Dark and Stormy Murder is the first one and there's 4 so far)! I thought A Dark and Stormy Murder was especially suspenseful and I couldn't put it down, but that might just be me. LOL

message 409: by Sandy (new)

Sandy I too am a Jessica Fletcher fan. I love the mysteries and the shows. I really loved Angela Lansbury in Bednobs and Broomsticks. I actually saw her in a John Wayne movie set in Alaska when she was very young.

Sandy Erin wrote: "Sandy wrote: "I too am a Jessica Fletcher fan. I love the mysteries and the shows. I really loved Angela Lansbury in Bednobs and Broomsticks. I actually saw her in a John Wayne movie set in Alaska ..."

Actually I know next to nothing about her personally. I will have to look and see if there is a book about her yet.

message 411: by Helen (new)

Helen Loveland I've seen her in a few black-and-whites too. Honestly can't remember the movies. I do remember thinking she was a great actress!

Gary Sundell Helen wrote: "I've seen her in a few black-and-whites too. Honestly can't remember the movies. I do remember thinking she was a great actress!"

She has had a lengthy career. Movies, tv, Broadway. The first choice for Jessica Fletcher was Jean Stapleton but she turned it down.

Melodie Helen wrote: "I've seen her in a few black-and-whites too. Honestly can't remember the movies. I do remember thinking she was a great actress!"

One of my favorite old movies with Angela Lansbury is Blue Hawaii. She played Elvis' mother, even though she was only a little more than 9 years older than him. And, of course, she was great in The Manchurian Candidate.

message 414: by Heather L (new)

Heather L Her first role was as a maid in one of my favorite old B&W movies, Gaslight.

message 415: by Crankyblonde (new)

Crankyblonde Hi! I'm Lisa. I love to read and cozies are my favorite although I also like biographies, some romance and steampunk. I have a big collection of the Y.A. books I loved as a tween and teen - once I discovered Nancy Drew there was no turning back! I'm retiring after nearly 30 years working on a college campus, 25 of those in the library. Hopefully I'll have a lot more time to read, and to visit here.

message 416: by Helen (new)

Helen Loveland I'm going to have to rewatch these Angela Lansbury flicks now. Fun!

Welcome Lisa!! When I was a child I thought the library was one of the most magical places.

message 417: by Michael (new)

Michael I'm Michael from Florida. My favorite authors are:

M C Beaton. (Hamish MacBeth)
Kaitlyn Dunnet. (Liss MacCrimmon)
Dicey Deere. (Torry Tunet)

Seems most of the cozies I read are set in Ireland or Scotland.

message 418: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy So glad I got everyone to talking about and revisiting their love of Murder, She Wrote and Angela Lansbury's various roles! Both are definitely worth discussing! So glad she's still acting too, at age 93!

And glad to hear you'll be looking into the cozies I recommended, Erin! I'm on book 4 of the Lighthouse Library Mysteries and book 2 of the Writer's Apprentice Mysteries and they're still as good as the first books! Hope you enjoy them!

Welcome, Michael! I'm of Scottish ancestry, so I have a few cozy series set in Scotland and Ireland (and England too) on my Cozies to Read list! I've read some excerpts from them and they sound really good! Bet the 3 you named are as well! I've heard of them, but just haven't looked into them. :)

The ones I have on mine are:
Scottish Highlands Mysteries
Scottish Bookshop Mysteries
Irish Village Mysteries
County Cork Mysteries (Ireland)
English Cottage Garden Mysteries
Aunt Dimity Mysteries (England)

message 420: by Laura (new)

Laura Hello, everyone!

I'm Laura, a 50+ reader who reads a little of everything. I have been devouring cozies lately; I particularly enjoy those with witches, or that take place in the UK, or have a small-town setting. I'm poking around here and my list is now miles long! I look forward to chatting with you all about our shared favorites.

message 421: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Dare we call them paranormal? The ghost and witch ones are my favorites too...welcome - my tbr is so long and keeps getting longer every day. I keep telling myself i will stop putting things on it but oh well...

message 422: by ClassicPink (new)

ClassicPink Hello everyone! Greetings from Alabama :)

I am a pretty avid reader and cozy mysteries are a newer niche for me that I simply adore. Otherwise I will read across the spectrum with the exception of romance.

I am part of a mystery bookclub as well as one focusing on historical fiction. Lately I’ve become active on some Facebook groups for lovers of cozies. I enjoy reading and writing reviews of books. It’s fascinating to see how people enjoy (and dislike) different things about the same book.

Grateful for this group. Thanks for giving me a chance to come from out of lurk mode and say hello.

message 423: by Milly (new)

Milly Myers Hello! I’m Milly. I’m retired and love reading Cozy Mysteries. I used to read Murder Mysteries and Thrillers. They can be quite graphic and violent. Then one day, a few years ago, I found something called a Cozy. Gave it a chance and never looked back. I read to sleep (insomnia!) and drifting off with these light hearted, and sometimes humorous themes are a definite improvement. Just what I was looking for!

message 424: by bookreader_nix (new)

bookreader_nix Hi all! My name is Nikki and I'm sorta new to cozy mysteries. I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan <3 and I love crime fiction, murder mysteries/thrillers, and psychological thrillers. I like a good mystery with some twists and turns. I recently went to the local indie near my parent's house and glanced at a book with a really pretty cover (it was A Killer Read by Erika Chase) and was compelled to buy it! From looking at the cover, I could tell it was a cozy mystery and since then have been CRAVING more. I haven't read it yet; I know, what a shame!

I'm super grateful to be part of this group and hopefully, eventually, start participating in some cozy discussions :)

message 425: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Public librarian here! I'm new to the cozy mysteries scene but I am in love with the Agatha Raisin series I'm currently working through. Any recommendations for reads after this ends would be amazing. I particularly enjoy an English setting and a strong-willed female lead.
Thanks!

message 426: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Hello! I'm Kristin and I currently live in southeastern PA although we are trying hard to move south. I love to read cozies, I've been to Malice Domestic twice, Bouchercon once, and Suffolk Mystery Authors Festival once and am going again this year. I am admin on a facebook group for cozy mystery lovers and am considering starting a review blog. And I love dogs, especially my rescue Jax. My husband is tolerant of my reading habit, but he doesn't understand why I like to read as much as I do. But I love him anyway.

message 427: by Sandy (new)

Sandy I could live with tolerant!!!! will have to google those as you are in a somewhat near neck of the woods to me.

message 428: by Austenne (new)

Austenne Grey Hey there,
My name is Austenne. I'm an actor and narrator with Audible who sings opera from time to time. I'm totally new to the Cozy Mystery genre. So, who is your fave author? What's your fave book? The book stack on my nightstand is usually filled with fantasy and urban fiction with some narrative non-fiction thrown in so I'm very much looking forward to dipping my toes into the cozy mystery sea. (Yep - I'm a bit corny...but I like that) :)

message 429: by Ojingiri (new)

Ojingiri Hannah Hi everybody
My name is Hannah and I'm new in this group.... I love mysteries. I'm 25 years old from Nigeria. Curled up thinking about mysterious things is dope, especially at night. Life itself is a mystery. We all just land here somehow. Lol

message 430: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Craig Hello Austenne, there are so many great copies out there, but M C Beat on had two great series titled Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth. They are unique among the genre a nd well worth your time.

message 431: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Craig Sorry, my default changed "cozies" to "copies".

message 432: by Sandy (last edited Jun 04, 2019 03:59PM) (new)

Sandy If you are into the paranormal at all Juliet Blackwell has some great cozy series. She is a favorite for me. I liked Hamish Macbeth but not so much Agatha Raisin - but she was very unique.

Also there are a ton of "The Cat Who..." by Lillian Jackson Braun - if you like cats.

And of course Aunt Dimity by Nancy Atherton.

My favorite is by far very slapstick Meg Langslow by Donna Andrews - Murder with Puffins - very cute and funny.

message 433: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hi everyone! I’m new to Goodreads but I’ve been reading cozies for YEARS. I discovered them in the 7th grade with Agatha Christie. I read a lot of genres but cozy mysteries is my favorite.

Nothing Like A Good Book!!!! wood Hello All,

My name is Nicole J. and I love Cozy Mysteries....(Culinary Mysteries are at the top of my list)

message 435: by Sandy (new)

Sandy hi Nicole - what are some of your favorites?

message 436: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Wilson Hello, I am new to the book club and I would just like to say hello! I am originally from Oregon but moves to England shortly after my birth and was raised there for plenty of years until re-settling in the United States. I love bats, cats, books, teas, Disney, history, and Halloween! Pleasure to meet you all!

message 437: by SarahG (last edited Jul 02, 2019 05:14PM) (new)

SarahG Hello everyone. I am Sarah and I am from central Ohio. I have been a Goodreads user for a few years now but have just recently discovered the groups.
I was not much of a reader until a few years ago. My mother used to read cozy mysteries all the time and she introduced me to Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown's "Mrs Murphy" series. 300+ books later and I have 150+ TBR books and the list keeps growing. I do keep a hard copy list and I am NOT allowed to add any to that unless they are new publications in a series that I've already finished.

I am trying to finish The Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun but I'm only on book #7. (But yet I've finished 56 books so far this year. I get too distracted by other books.)

I read at home and always have a book in my purse to read any chance I get. I also listen to audiobooks more than I do music.

Other favorite authors: Miranda James, Sofie Kelly/Sofie Ryan, JR Ward, Janet Evanovich, Karin Slaughter...…...

message 438: by Michele (new)

Michele Hi! My name is Michele. I was a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade public school teacher and a Title 1 tutor. I got into cozy mysteries about 3 years ago because I wanted to find a type of book to help relieve my daily stress from teaching. I wanted to find a book that I could read only for enjoyment and entertainment! Cozies make me happy! The first series I ever read was the Joanne Fluke Hannah Swenson series. I love cozy mysteries because of the quaint towns in which they usually take place. Reading these stories makes me want to visit those towns! My favorite types of cozies are those that have to do with baked goods because I love chocolate brownies and peanut butter cookies!

message 439: by Heather L (new)

Heather L Welcome to the group Nikki, Sarah, and Michele — be prepared to watch your TBR piles grow! 😄

message 440: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Torrez Hi everyone, my name is Nikki. I am a Special Education Aide in an elementary school. I have loved reading my whole life. My parents tell me my Grandmother read to me when I was a toddler and I always had my favorites that I made her read over and over. My love for reading reignited when I read To Kill A Mockingbird in high school. I like many genres, but love a good cozy! I can’t wait to get to know everyone!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse Hello there, I may have introduced myself here before, but I'm trying to become more active in groups. :) My name is Maggie, I'm a librarian in Muskoka, and I have two little girls who seem to have inherited my love of books. I enjoy all genres, but seek out family drama more often than the others. When I'm not reading, I like to write, hike, bake, or sing.

message 442: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai Hello, I'm Luffy from Mauritius. I love cozy mysteries by authors who can pad their mysteries with good storytelling.

message 443: by Bookish_Westie (new)

Bookish_Westie Hello everyone!

My name is Sam and honestly I can read just about anything. I'm 24 and live up in cozy New England. Currently I'm in a cozy mystery binge read all and love discussing it all with my mom (who is a avid mystery reader.) I figure to help not only myself expand into the cozy mystery genre, but also give my mom some good titles to devour I should join a goodreads group. I'm currently a library science grad student and yes I work in a library and love my job. While being surrounded by books is amazing, it's also really hard! There's so many books I want to read but time is a nunisance and curses me all the way! Can't wait to dive into discussions!

message 444: by J. (new)

J. Mummey Hi everyone!
Finally getting some time to myself to enjoy writing and reading good books. I am so happy to be here:) I love reading a good mystery late at night by candlelight on the screened porch. The sound of little animals crunching across leaves in the woods ups the fear factor for a wonderfully spooky night!

message 445: by Megan (new)

Megan Hello everyone! I’m Megan, and very new to this group, but just in the last few days I’ve already added a handful of cozy mysteries to my never ending TBR pile! I’m trying to become more active on Goodreads, and my goal is to get back to writing reviews. Reading is one of my absolute favorite things to do and I enjoy almost all genre’s, but cozy mysteries are my go-to’s where I can never find a bad one! Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself either lol. 🤗

message 446: by Tracy Marie (new)

Tracy Marie Hi, I'm Tracy Marie. I just joined this group today. I love Cozy Mysteries.

I live in Oregon and work at the family bookstore.

Kirsten Hi, Tracy Marie! We're practically neighbors! I live in Kennewick in Washington State.

message 448: by Ingie (new)

Ingie Hi! I’m Ingie (55) from Sweden. I read, or nowadays mostly audiobook listens, to many different genres but have a fondness for cozy mystery books and most preferably a historical one. If there is also a heartwarming love story there is even better.

message 449: by Joan (last edited Aug 04, 2019 10:53AM) (new)

Joan Greetings everyone. My name is Joan and I joined the group last year but was very busy with grad school and just now getting around to post. I love cozy mysteries because of the focus on character and plot, sans gratuitous violence and sex. This is a wonderful group, I love reading the posts and gaining new recs!

message 450: by Sher (new)
