I'm a British reader and writer of cosy (or cozy if you prefer) crime novels.
I read a wide range in this genre from the classics such as Agatha Christie, through contemporary such as Richard Osman to futuristic such as JD Robb.

Absolutely! I have missed out so much while in nursing school - I have so much to make up for. The issue, where do I start?! Any good suggestions? Right now I am in a historical London mystery mood for some odd reason ;)

I love reading, over the last two years I've really gotten back into it. I host a book review podcast with my mother-in-law on Spotify called Page Turners. I work really hard on being an active member on Goodreads, I keep notes on the books I read and keep up with my reading challenge. I mostly read e-books now, and I love reviewing books for indie or starting out authors.
We love to read anything and everything as long as it keeps our interest. But I do love a good mystery that keeps you guessing throughout the whole thing!
I also maintain a booktok (@pageturnerspod) and bookstagram (@dedicated.reader).

By day, I'm a mild-mannered business professional, balancing the demands of work and family. But by night, I transform into a caped crusader of the written word, fighting the forces of mediocrity and boredom with my trusty pen.
I'm not quite Batman, of course. I don't have a butler or a Batmobile, and I'm not very good at fighting crime. But I do have a passion for storytelling, and I use my writing skills to create worlds and characters that will transport readers on adventures they'll never forget.
This year I took on the project of writing my first novel. It is a cozy mystery. I had never actually heard of this great genre before writing my book. Keen to hear more recommendations and join discussions in this group.

When I was a kid in school, I got into trouble defacing a dictionary. I hollowed it out to make room for a mystery book that I could read while pretending to be doing homework. Yes, bad. I also got in trouble for reading by flashlight underneath the covers at night, but you remember that one story you couldn’t put down until you read the end.
My name is Thomas but friends call me Tommy. I was an Air Force brat who lived in England Savannah and Orlando Florida before the mouse made it famous. I was born in Atlanta and being from the South, I suppose I should be thankful I wasn’t called Jim-Bob or John-Boy. Well, since I also am an author John-Boy might not be so bad.
I read everything. On long road trips, I used to read the Burma Save signs but now it’s mostly action fiction, mystery, and the occasional cozy. I just finished reading one called the Cannibal Caper which was pretty good.
I am retired now and living in the North Georgia mountains. I am a former Marine and a former police officer, and my last job was doing computer stuff at a company called Satair, which made Aircraft parts. Not a bad job as I got to travel to Denmark and France. I now write books and enjoy my grandchildren.
. I try to write grown-up mysteries without using a lot of profanity. The people I attend church with read my books, and I don’t want to be called to a counseling session by my Pastor and the church Deacons.

All the best,
Ava ❤️

My name is Megan and I just joined the group! I live in Las Vegas, NV and work as a Veterinary Technician at a shelter. I have 3 cats & enjoy reading cozy mysteries, horror, and thriller/suspense. A few series I have read and really enjoyed include;
Nicole Ellis - Jill Andrews Cozy Mystery
Cate Conte - Cat Cafe Mystery
Vivien Chien - A Noodle Shop Mystery
I am hoping to get some good book recommendations and make some friends! Please feel free to add me if you’d like. :)

I want to send her some "cozy mysteries" for light reading -- specifically, cozy mysteries featuring female college students.
Not being very familiar with the genre myself, so far the only such mysteries I've found with a college setting feature protagonists who are professors.
Please can you recommend cozy mysteries in which the protagonists are college students?
Thank you so much for your time and helpfulness.
Wishing you all a wonderful 2024.

I read a bit of everything :) I go through stages with certain generes, but cozy mysteries finally made it to my TBR list a couple of years agao. To say that was an a great addition would be an understatement! Maddie Day and Fiona Grace have topped my list at he moment. I have added a few new ones to give a try in the new year.
Happy Reading !

Not sure if you'll see this, but The Secret History by Donna Tartt is most definitely NOT a cosy mystery and deals with some quite heavy topics, so I'm not sure it will meet the criteria for what your granddaughter's interested in.
I'm not sure about cosy mysteries with protagonists as college students, but hopefully, others in the group might be able to recommend titles.
All the best to your granddaughter, and I wish her the best heading off to college.

I'm Jules, 52, currently in Utah, but I grew up military, so I've lived all over the U.S. (alas, never overseas). I'm a lifelong reader and writer with wide-ranging tastes, but mysteries are a new passion. I've watched them forever, and enjoyed reading them as plots in other genres. It's just been recently that I thought to try them as a genre unto themselves.
I knew from my viewing preferences that cozies would be the best fit, and they're not disappointing so far. My one complaint would be the overlap with romance, a genre I could do with far less of as an ace individual. Granted, I know a lot of the overlap is due to my fondness for a supernatural element.
I would love recommendations for supernatural cozies without a romance element. I need to investigate the group's conversations to see if there's one focused on requesting recs.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to exploring cozies more and getting to know everyone!

Other than reading, I also enjoy watching football & basketball; gardening (flowers, not veggies)- and I'm a Master Gardener intern; love the ocean & sea turtles (so any cozy mysteries that take place in a seaside town would be great!); trying to get back into doing watercolor painting and have been doing some air dry clay; want to learn macrame; and enjoy traveling when I can.
I work as an administrative secretary at a local university and love it.

I am Dawn from Nebraska. I enjoy reading as it gives me an escape into a different world or realm. I have read mysteries of all kinds for some time. Thanks for letting me join. Happy Reading!

But I hope you enjoy this as much as i do :D

Hi, I'm not sure how this works either but I think somehow, we'll both find out. I didn't read many mysteries when I was younger but have as I've gotten older. In fact, that's what I mainly read now, though I do take time to read a bit of the classics (Dickens, Verne, Wells, etc.).

I love reading (and watching) Jessica Fletcher books and Columbo too. In fact, I'm currently reading Jessica's "Murder in Season).

I love reading mysteries-it all started with Nancy Drew when I was young. After a reading hiatus when I was raising and homeschooling my kids, I discovered cozy mysteries and have read through many series. Looking forward to learning about new ones and having a place to discuss them!

Hope to chat with y'all soon :)

We are big readers. The Potter books are great fun to read, how fun for you to read them now, we anxiously waited for each one to be released over the years and have read the series several times.
What other types of books do you like? we are voracious readers. I am trying to encourage my husband to stop buying books and check them out at the library but that hasn't worked so far.
Beth

Anyway, I'm here to connect with fellow book lovers on Goodreads and in this group because bookish friends make the best friends! So, let's chat about our latest reads, exchange recommendations, and forge new bookish friendships together!

I've been an amateur sleuth via reading cozies and mysteries since I could read. Always convinced I could solve the crime early, imagine my surprise when Nancy Drew, Miss Marple, and Holmes tricked me with their ingenuity. These days, I love to mix it up between cozies, hard-boiled crime, thrillers, and literary.
Great to be here!

Feel free to send a friend request - I am always looking to see what kind of books other folks like to read. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
