message 706: by Todd (new)

Todd Rhoda Hi, I am Todd and I am author of 4 cozy mystery books.
I'm excited to have published a new cozy mystery series entitled, "A Swim for the Dying,"an Ellie Pincrest mystery where a prominent logo designer is pitted against large real estate developers in her grandmother's quaint Long Island seaside village.

It's a near-historical cozy as it's Memorial Day weekend 1986 and the heroine is escaping Manhattan after her boyfriend of many years unceremoniously dumps her. Grandmother's estate is the safest place she knows, but soon after arriving the body of the person she spoke to on the seaplane riding out to Long Island washes ashore.

In the fast-moving plot, there's misdirection, chicanery, and a blindside climax.

Humbly thanking in advance any consideration (and reviews!) for:

Maureen Anderson Hi all i am new to this group looking for inspiration and challenges for my reading. Exploring other genres is my thing for 2021. I originally joined goodreads to challenge myself to read a book a monthand try my hand at a book review or two. Now i will surpass that easily if my momentum keeps up and my TBR grows by the day.

Oh how I loved Nancy Drew mysteries when I was young! Every now and then I reread one just to relive fond memories! Welcome!

Bettina Johnson Hello everyone. Like Annmarie wrote above, my love affair with cozies started with Agatha Christie and then I read every Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden series I could get my hands on (I read them all before I hit 10). Edgar Allan Poe came next and I was off an running.

I live in the N. GA mountain area and write (but I promise - no self-promotion...I adore cozy reading and that's why I am here!). Right now I am re-reading Paige Shelton's, Deadly Editions, because I read it so quickly the first run-through, I decided I needed to slow down and savor it again! Paige is one of my favs along with Nancy Atherton, Cleo Coyle, Laura Childs, Kate Carlisle, JoAnna Carl, Ann Purser and the late, great Joan Hess (those Maggody books did me in!). Nice to meet you all.....BJ

My mother got rid of lots of my childhood toys, but I absconded with all of my childhood books! My books and my cats are my treasures! I told my family that when I pass on, I want to be buried with my TBR books and a flashlight with extra long-life batteries! I don't want to be caught dead without my books! LOL!!! My family thinks I'm a bit peculiar. I say being peculiar is one of my best attributes! Peculiarity got me through 59 years and hasn't caused me too much trouble so far! 🤪😄🤣😂😀😁

I’m enjoying this discussion about all those old Stratemeyer mystery series for kids. I loved Trixie Belden. Much more interested in the Hardy Boys than Nancy Drew. I didn’t like that Nancy called her father, “Father.” Sounded snobby to me. Maybe I had something in me of my granddaughter. When I introduced her to both series, she preferred the Hardy Boys. All Nancy Drew did was “call the cops!”

message 717: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine Gurl Hi,
Sunshine Gurl here. I'm new here as well as to the independent publishing through kdp. I hope everyone is having a successful month with sales. I am a cozy mystery author/avid reader. Just looking to make friends with like minds and swap knowledge.

message 718: by Mary (new)

Mary I love a good mystery and have several favorite authors such as Sandy Cody and Anne Perry. It doesn't matter whether it is historical or contemporary. SciFi and fantasy not so much. Because of my interests, I write contemporary mysteries, and Book 2 of my Stopover mysteries is now published. I'm looking forward to recommendations from the group, exploring new books, and meeting new readers and writers.

Annette Dahl "Old Vicarious Reader" Hello Everyone,
As I've gotten older (70 yrs young) I've found my genre style has changed a lot. I have come to love cozy mysteries, but sometimes I'd like a hint of romance. Nothing naughty of course.
I'm joining the group so I can get some ideas of what books I might like to read.
Best regards. Annette Dahl

I am 70 too. I love a certain kind of romance. Don't most Agatha Christie mysteries have at least one romance? Have you read/enjoyed them?

One that has lingered with me is The Mystery of the Blue Train.

Not everyone likes this story. Here is my review:
The story is engaging with interesting characters. The main reason I rated it a 4 and not a 3 is because of the character of Katherine Grey. She is now my favorite (non-detective) Christie character. As for the mystery and story: I never really guessed who it was, though I think I went through just about every character as a possibility at one time or another. But she really played this one close to the vest for me.

One I just finished last night had a romance that really got to me (in a good way). Outside of the romance, it's a well written book.
The Knocker on Death's Door.

Melina Wright Hi everyone,
I'm Melina and I'm an avid book reader! Hello!
I can only read on my kindle now due to a disability but I'm slamming it!😉 Love Agatha Christie - was a young mum and when all my friends were out partying I was at home with my daughter and "Aggie"! She kept me going when times were hard and I've had a life long love of 20's - 60's murder mysteries.
My other love is Ska (Jamaican beat) Thanks for letting me say "Hi"! 😊 xx

Sue Dooley Hi all! I'm Sue. I'm new to this group. I'm glad I finally found a group of like-minded readers. My love of cozies goes waaay back. Some of my first reads ever were Nancy Drew mysteries. I love to get lost in a good mystery set in a small town.

message 728: by Annie (new)

Annie Hi, I'm Annie. I joined goodreads ages ago, but haven't made much use of it. I work at a small public library, mostly in programming. I logged into gr to get suggestions for our mystery book club to read and came across all these groups formed around mysteries.

I enjoy cozy mysteries, but also like other subgenres. The book club often reads titles suggested by our members so that's been expanding my reading horizons. I love when someone suggests an author I've never read, I like the book, and then have a whole new series to look forward to reading.

message 729: by Rosie (new)

Rosie Meleady Hi Annie,

I'm new to Good Reads too .. well like you, I joined ages ago and never used it and just recently discovered it again. I'm currently reading the Thursday Mystery Club which I'm really enjoying and recommend. I'm an author and working on a mystery series based in Italy (that's where I live). The first book in the series will be out in August, with number 2 out in Sept and number 3 out in October, which I'm excited about :) Maybe down the line your group will consider my series for reading :) Looking forward to getting to know people on here, let me know if you have any page-turner recommendations that you find! x Rosie

Rosie Meleady Hi!
I'm Rosie, I'm from Ireland but live in Italy. I'm renovating a 22 room derelict villa here. Due to Covid wiping out my wedding planning business I have had lots of time to get back to my old hobbies of reading and writing. I tend to listen to a lot of audio books while working on the house.

At the moment I am listening to Stephen Fry reading Sherlock Holmes (he does it so well!), reading the Thursday Murder Club and writing book 3 in my 'Deadly Wedding Cozy Mystery' series which launches in August.

Glad to have found this group and looking forward to hearing people's recommendations :)

x

Rosie

Maggie Bell Hey all! I am new to this group. I live in Missouri. I am a therapist at residential facility for kids/teenagers with emotional and behavioral issues by day and a book lover by night. I read everything that I can get my hands on. I really love mysteries but struggle to find mystery authors that I can't get enough of. So I decided to join this group and find recommendations.

message 738: by Eva (new)

Eva Hello, I am super new to good reads, so I am trying to get a hang of how the groups work ( I just found out GR has books lol). I love mystery thrillers, and I got super into them this year. The first book I read this year was A Little Life, and the second was The Family Upstairs, and just like that Lisa Jewell got me hooked on these types of books. Feel free to add me and send me any good twisty suggestions that keep me turning pages like crazy!

message 739: by JenAR (new)

JenAR Hello! I’m new here and happy to be able to get some new ideas on books to add to my list. I love mysteries, especially enjoy Louise Penny.

message 740: by Chris (new)

Chris Velazquez Hello. I've always been into the cozy mystery genre, always loved the concept of looking at every clue and solving a mystery but in a cozy, fun way, ever since I was a child. I've only just recently begun delving into the genre via book form and am always open to finding a good cozy series to read.

message 741: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Shane Hello to All!
I just joined this group. I'm an artist and writer in Tucson, Arizona, USA. I read all sorts of books, fiction and nonfiction, with the exception of horror (I'm not a fan of scary!) I divide my time between art (oils, mixed media, artists' books) and writing fiction. The books I've written are 1) a private investigator mystery-suspense series (Letty Valdez) and; 2) I have a new cozy series (Cat Miranda). These are real cozy mysteries with a sweet romantic subplot (not romantic suspense but a real cozy mystery with sweet romance) set in a small town with an amateur sleuth (that's Cat).

For fun, I like to garden, to walk and hike, to listen to jazz and to hang out with dogs. (My books usually have a dog in them.) This week I'm getting artwork ready for two different art exhibits that are coming up. And I'm thinking about starting my next book.

I look forward to "meeting" you all, learning from you, and getting good book recommendations. I publish under the name C.J. Shane, my first name is Charlotte, but everyone calls me Shane (blame it on my high school chemistry teacher who called everyone by their last names). ~~Shane in Tucson

message 742: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Hi Everyone! I'm Victoria and I've been a longtime lurker in the group, and a first-time poster as of today. I am a librarian at my local public library. I currently live in Maryland but I am originally from North Carolina and I miss it there terribly. I'm a cat mom to my two sweet rescued babies, Budgie Jean and Tunder. Besides reading I enjoy cross-stitching, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. I've been participating in some other reading challenges in other Goodreads groups and I love them, they really motivate me to put down the phone and pick up a book instead! I'm looking forward to participating in the monthly reading challenges and the seasonal challenges as well! Thanks for having me as a member of your group and happy reading!!!

message 744: by A.K. (new)

A.K. Summer Hi
I am, as someone else put it so well above, both a cozy (cosy on this side of the Atlantic) reader and writer. I've been enjoying such books as Agatha Raisin, Myrtle Clover and Aunt Bessie for a long time and have now branched out with my own.

message 745: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Tyler Greetings everyone. I'm new here. My goal is to find new authors or new series that I can hunker down with over the next several months......
Books that I have loved include all of those by Christie, Nicholas Blake, Tey, Marsh, Rendell, James and Sarah Caudwell and others from the past.

I am following the work of Louise Penny, Donna Leon, Julia Keller, and my goal is to find new names, new recommendations, and a new series to begin. I do like the cozy and the procedural but I don't much like testosterone-fuelled books.

message 746: by Amy (new)

Amy D. Hello all,
Mysteries are one of the genres that I prefer, although I've only read a handful of cozies. I've enjoyed the last one I read (To Catch a Witch) and am enjoying my current one (Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House) - both for a challenge in another group - so plan on reading more.

I like reading books that go along with the season/holidays, but it seemed that romance books dominated that category. I'm not a fan of romance and I've recently discovered that the cozy genre has oodles of seasonal/holiday books.

My favorite mystery writer is Carl Hiaasen, but I know his aren't considered cozies. I love how kooky his books are. And that's the best word I can use to describe them.

Despite enjoying To Catch a Witch, I'm not usually up for paranormal. I'm also not super into baking or pets, so at least my starting cozy list is narrowed a bit!

message 747: by Zermeena (new)

Zermeena Hello-I've been following this group for about a week and decided it was time to introduce myself. I love mysteries! I gravitated to cozy mysteries long before I knew what they were. I also read sci-fi, fantasy, miscellaneous fiction, self-help and Buddhist philosophy books.

I retired recently and thought I would have lots of time for reading, but somehow my days are filled.

message 748: by Shalei (new)

Shalei Igavesti Hello, Everyone!

I am new to Goodreads and thought I'd look at joining a group or two. Agatha Christie was my first (and always) and forever favorite author although Lucy Score, Sophie Lark, Sandi Lynn are among my faves as well including romance with mystery.

Most of my reading is on my Kindle but I'm branching out to see what Goodreads has as well and trying to remember the title/author of a great mystery book I read years ago that took place either on a cruise or in a hotel that was an Agatha Christie-themed mystery hunt. So far, no luck in getting the little grey cells shifting to recall...lol.

I also enjoy historical romance, paranormal and rom-com fiction.

message 749: by Sue (new)

Sue Clancy Hi everyone! I'm a professional artist/author and whenever I'm not painting I'm usually cooking or reading a cozy mystery. I love fiction and
non fiction: art, literature, Fairy tales and science genres too - along with a cozy mystery. I read print books and ebooks both but seeing stacks and shelves of printed books makes me happiest!
