Forgetfulone Hi. Diana (aka Forgetfulone) here. I love mysteries, cozy, thrilling, and everything in between! I'm from Houston.

message 652: by Judith (last edited Jan 29, 2021 03:34PM) (new)

Judith Hi All. Another Vancouver Islander here. I grew up reading cozies, starting with all the Nancy Drews, and graduated to classic mysteries - favourites like Raymond Chandler, and Marjory Allingham (must go back and read some of those) and I particularly like Elizabeth Peters' plucky Victorian archeologist, Amelia Peabody.

message 653: by Judith (new)

Judith In the spirit of full disclosure, I also write the Rocky and Bernadette mysteries, as well as in other genres.

Jack Ryan Hello All

Diana Hi guys I’m diana! I stumbled upon this group thanks to the trending now suggestions on my home page. Super glad I did cause mystery novels are one of my favorite genres.

message 656: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Layton Hi everybody! Tomorrow is the beginning of February. What are your reading goals for this new month?

message 657: by AAWS (new)

AAWS Hi I'm from Oregon and love to read cozy mysteries! I love that most of the back stories are focused on animals or food. My two favorite things. I like that like most mystery books they don't go into gory details about said murder and give you clues of the whodunit. I hope you all have a great day.

message 658: by Supratim (new)

Supratim Hi everyone, i'm from India. New to Goodreads. I love reading Rhys Bowen. Looking for new authors to try in mystery genre.

Pamela Jackie wrote: "Hi everybody! Tomorrow is the beginning of February. What are your reading goals for this new month?"

My reading goal is just to be able to have some time to read. We have been having bad weather and are in the middle of a big nor'Easter right now...too much work to do before I can take time to cozy up with a good book, a cup of tea, and my cats. How I look forward to that after shoveling "feet" of snow and salting for days!

I grew up reading Nancy Drew and matured into Agatha Christie and more. I really enjoy delving into why a writer chose a specific theme or location to write about. I love a good whodunit and solving puzzles. Thanks.

I loved Nancy Drew as a child. Every now and then, I'll still read one for the fond memories. I enjoy mysteries that really keep you guessing who the culprit is. I still like to watch old reruns of Murder She Wrote and Perry Mason and I enjoy Hallmark's Movies and Mysteries. I'm sure you'll enjoy this group!

message 671: by Patty (new)

Patty Grasher Hi! I'm from Vancouver, Washington (not B.C) retired and keeping myself "Covidly" amused by writing my first Cozy Mystery that takes place here in Vancouver in 1908.

It will be about a young lady starting a boarding house to support herself and two siblings. It will include a ghost, a cat (also a ghost) a couple of Army sergeants and a few more odd characters. I think it will be absolutely wonderful and I think under pressure I can probably get my two sisters to read it. Beyond that we will see . . .

I picked 1908 as I have a cookbook published by a ladies Guild in that year and I want to tie in a few recipes in the book. The recipes are so fun - very few directions. Grab a few ingredients, put them in a pot, place them on the fire and cook till done.

This sounds like a very fun group and I like the idea of sharing with other cozy readers.

message 672: by Karen (new)

Karen Holman This book sounds like a great tale! Love the idea of ghosts and history together. Can't wait to see what recipes you tie into the story. One word of caution if the back jacket says recipes please make sure there is more than one for readers to try. Thanks and good luck Karen

message 674: by Tobi (new)

Tobi Doyle Hello all,
I love cozy mysteries, especially MC Beaton. I love witty banter and fun twists and quirky characters. I haven't read any historical cozies, but I'm open to suggestions:)

During the pandemic, I finalized my first amateur sleuth mystery which to be published March 15. Charlie Sanders is fabulous at fifty and a happily married empty nester who has it all; sciatica, myopia, and a dead body in her LaZBoy. Wish me luck!

Linda Hi fellow cozy readers! I live in Denver, and I've been an avid reader since elementary school. Dana Girls, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew as well as some books written for boys (Stephen W. Meader & Howard Pease were two of my favorite authors). Now i still love historical mysteries as well as contemporary - Carolyn Hart and Anne Perry as examples. Read on!

Elle Hartford Hello all! I just recently joined goodreads and have enjoyed following this group. I'm so pleased to find a group of people who loves cozies too (I've had to explain to my friends & coworkers what cozies are so many times that I feel like a PR/Marketing Rep haha). I adore mysteries and fantasy, and in addition to being an avid reader, I'm currently working on writing a novel that combines cozy and fairy tale. :) Have a great day!

message 684: by John (new)

John Yingling Hello; my name is John. In May I will have been a librarian (I work in a public library system) for 20 years. I have loved to read my entire life, and have multiple stacks of books of my own at home still to be read. I especially like to read mysteries, biographies, and books about American history. I work in a department that serves homebound people and those in nursing homes or assisted living centers. Many of our patrons love cozy mysteries. I compiled a list of cozy mystery authors and their series--these are the books that we own in our department, I like the humor and the upbeat, gentle storylines in cozy mysteries, along with the interesting characters, most of whom you, as a reader, come to care about. I'm looking forward to reading the comments and posts here, as well as sharing reviews. I hope everyone will have a lovely day.

Pixie in the Wind Hi everyone, I’m so excited to find this group. I have been reading Mysteries for years but have never heard of cozy Mysteries until I scrolled past this group trying to find my fit and here you are (insert smile). I am looking forward to reading the books and hearing what everyone thought about them as well.

Elizabeth Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I am a technical Writer. I love listening to Cozy Mysteries using Audible. I am new to Goodreads and am looking forward to finding new series to read/listen to.

message 690: by Corvus (new)

Corvus Hello everyone, my name is Corvus!

I made this account literally two days ago but I'm already in love with everything that is in here. I'm going to be 21 this year and I'm still at university, so sadly I don't have that much time to read. I've actually never had that much time.

Even with that, I've grown up (still am in a way) surrounded by mystery stories, mostly on movies or series, but I've always loved reading and writing. I'm kind of disappointed in myself since I don't read as much as I would like to, but hopefully this will push me forward and have time to enjoy!

If anyone wants to chat with me I'm always open for a nice conversation!

message 691: by [deleted user] (new)

J Franklin here and I enjoy writing mystery thrillers. My latest book Thread takes a Crime Family Story turn. An interesting look inside the workings and relationships of The Family. As a writer I enjoy my characters in plots that the reader will find exciting and one they can immerse themselves in.

I spent many years in the entertainment industry, both movies and music. Honored to be a producer of USO Entertainment. Putting on Shows for our Military.
Made movies starring children who were terminally ill. The magic of Movies embraced their hearts and minds, smiles on their souls, giving them the will to live again.

Currently writing a continuation of Thread and my protagonist Kyle Stone as more readers fall in love with him.

message 692: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Hi all, Kimberly from Mississippi here. Big Agatha Christie fan, looking for some modern versions of the same thing. Arsenic and Adobo was a good fit (although I'm pretty fed up with book of the month for sending out copies with a missing page to us and hoping we wouldnt notice)

message 693: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Ducie Hello everyone. I'm Elizabeth, based in Devon, UK. I read crime almost exclusively, and particularly cozy crime. I love Cecelia Peartree's Pitkirtly series, set in Scotland, and Frances Evesham's books. I watch loads of Agatha Christie films and TV shows, but realised recently I had never read her books. I am putting that right at the moment. As well as being an avid reader, I am also a writer, with three thrillers and a quest novel already out there. I am now working on novel #5, a cozy mystery set in Devon.

message 694: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Dean Hi All,

I’ve just joined the group and resolve to check it regularly. I transitioned from writing academic books to writing what I guess I’d call cozies. Or are they simple “whodunnits”? Does anyone have an idea of what the difference is? My books tend to take place in a small, local setting and they all involve a crime. I’d classify them as both cozies and “whodunnits.” They’re definitely not thrillers. I’m reading one now that is well written, but not really to my taste. But kudos to you who can write thrillers. I think it was Tana French (my new favorite) who argued that mysteries can also qualify as literary fiction. I’m with her. Categories are meant to be broken.

Hello everyone, I’m John from near Oxford in the UK.
I’ve recently upgraded my very old Kindle to a Kindle Oasis, so it now links to Goodreads, which has really caught my interest. Although there seems to be so much on here it’s a bit like information-overload at the moment. But I’m getting there.

It wasn’t until a few years ago when I rejoined my local library after a long time away, that I discovered there was such a thing as cozy crime, or should that be cosy crime, or does it even matter. :-) I thoroughly enjoy these book, nothing to heavy, just a nice easy going plot. Looking forward to reading many more, especially now I have found Goodreads to point me in the right direction.

Thanks. I’m pretty much on the same page as these commentators. I’ve written a cozy series about retired English professor Susan Warner. First of three of my second series is out. This time the amateur sleuth is librarian Deborah Strong. I don’t agree that a cozy is something you’d give to your mother/grandmother. I’m always amazed at what offends people. I have a relative who can’t read my first series because the character is an atheist. It hardly even matters to the novels. It’s just who she is. Maybe she’ll read my second series where the character is very much involved in her church.
