Cosies are a nice relief from the heavy stuff. I like that about them, too. :)

Mama Cass aka Bookhugger thanks M. :))

Melinda Hi everyone, I’m Melinda. I was introduced to cozy novels very recently and I’m hooked!
I have a lot of down time in hotels and airports due to my job and this genre just makes me happy.
I’m currently reading the Spice Shop Mystery series and absolutely loving it. I’m looking forward to future recommendations and conversations!

Hi Cass!
I agree about being tired of dark and depressing stories. The times we live in have enough of that, so I want to escape into a book that is not full of negative themes. I like books that lift my spirits and help to relieve stress, not add to it. I'm new to the group and to Cozy Mysteries and am looking forward to discovering more about them!

Kait Carson Hi all, I have introduced myself before, but since I'm now able to participate fully, I thought it would be good to refresh my bio. I'm Kait Carson and since our move from Florida to Maine, I'm now a former paralegal and a full time writer. I write traditional mysteries with a cozy edge set in South Florida. We live in the gorgeous Crown of Maine where winter is just beginning - had our first hard freeze yesterday - and where winter nights are 16 hours long. Perfect for reading in front of the fire or writing. I'm looking forward to participating. I've got both November reads on my Kindle.

message 607: by Pamela (new)

Pamela From Florida to Maine! That's a BIG move in every way! I just recently joined this group and am looking forward to reading along in November. The weather here in PA will just be getting cozy then, to go along with enjoying cozy mysteries!

Yep, it was quite the trip in July. We rented an RV so we didn't have to stay in hotels along the way or find restaurants. Winter weather is the best time to curl up with cozies!

I love the town of Bethlehem! Especially at Christmastime! I actually live closer to Bethlehem than to Philadelphia. I just always say "between" Philly and Bethlehem because those places are well known, compared to my tiny town. Did you visit your uncle in Bethlehem? Have you ever gone to the Christkindlmarkt? They opened early this year ( Oct. 8 thru Nov. 29) due to the Covid 19 virus. It won't be quite as cold and they can have everything outdoors, instead of in heated tents. The virus has changed so many things.😞

message 611: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hi y'all! I'm Jennifer and I was born and raised in North/Central Indiana, spent the last 6 years in Middle Tennessee, and just moved back to Indiana March 2020. Cozy Mysteries are new to me, but they look so much more inviting! I have loved mysteries for as long as I can remember, but I don't really like all the gore! Even some Christian mystery writers are a bit too much for me. I have recently discovered Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies and that has really got me wanting to read some cozy mysteries, so I am so happy to have found this group!
Also, I really appreciate y'all's group guidelines! Thank you!

They do! I love German things and recently discovered that I have relatives who live in Bavaria and have their own business making Bavarian furniture and Nutcrackers! I have loved all things related to The Nutcracker ballet ever since I was a little girl! I can't help but think it must be in my blood!😊

Mary Beth Hello.
Mysteries have to be my favorite book genre. I was a member of a book club for some years, that unfortunately folded. I loved that everyone had a turn to pick a book. A lot of times they were books that I would never of thought to read. Missed being a part of a group that loved reading, so I thought I'd join the group.

Linn Chapel Hi, I'm Linn Chapel!

I'm a writer and booklover who lives on the coast of Maine.

I've published two novels of fantasy romance (clean reads) and this summer I also started a series of cozy mysteries that feature a gargoyle cat.

These stories are set on the rugged coast of Maine near Bar Harbor, and they've been a lot of fun to plot and write.

-Linn

Welcome, Linn! A hairless cat! Very unique to choose that breed for your books. Do you own any cats? I have two. They own me. I just live with them!😃

message 619: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore Hello! My name is Addison Moore and I write cozy mysteries about talking cats, ghosts, innkeepers, and baking! So glad to meet you all! Let's get cozy together!

message 620: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Talking cats! I think that sounds great! I have many interesting conversations with my cats every day!🐱🐈😁 I'm going to take a look at your books, as I think I would enjoy them! Welcome to our group!

Ainsley Carrion Hello! My name is Ainsley Carrion and I love cozy mysteries. I have read many, but my favorite authors include Agatha Christie and Joanne Fluke. Looking forward to receiving more book recommendations!

Mama Cass aka Bookhugger I love books with cats. Always on the prowl for new books to read that feature them.

message 623: by Ellis (new)

Ellis Quinn Hello! I'm new to the cozy genre, but I love these books. The first I read was the Flash series by Donna Ball—which I absolutely loved—and have explored from there.

What I like the most is the safe and comfy feeling from them; I love a series with world-building and tangled relationships, and gossip and intrigue, grudges and deep history. I like a setting that I would love to visit and be a part of. Also a big fan of culinary aspects and of course dogs.

I'm a multiple dog owner and rescuer, and I love when the sleuth has a canine companion. Contemporary cozies are my favorite, but I have read some of Sara Bourgeois' paranormal series', and Amanda Lee's, too, and really enjoyed them.

In real life, I'm a writer and burgeoning homesteader. Ellis is my pen name, and I'm a published romance author. I've written three cozies in a series so I could create a place that I'd like to read about for myself!

I'm here to get the up-to-date news on what books are coming out and what's being recommended.

message 624: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Hi - I'm a reader of all kinds of books, and I always enjoy mysteries. Some of the new ones are getting a little grisly for me, so I thought I'd check in here for some alternatives. I grew up in the States but have lived in Australia for decades.

message 625: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Welcome Ellis & Patty! I'm fairly new here, too. It's a great place for all the latest about cozy mysteries! I especially enjoy cat related themes!

message 626: by Aleksander (new)

Aleksander Hello all! I'm very new to cozy mysteries (I've only read one!) but I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to finding more to enjoy. I'm especially looking forward to finding more series with animals, as I am an animal lover. I'm also excited to have some conversations about books!

message 628: by Byron (new)

Byron Smith Hi all!

My name is Byron. I live on Vancouver Island. I've always loved mysteries and read widely: cozy, noir, thriller, the classics... I have a soft spot for Erle Stanley Gardner.

I'm looking forward to meeting some folks and getting some good recommendations!

message 629: by MK (new)

MK Whiting Hello, just the title of the group is warming.
Been a reader for a lifetime. I am not locked into any particular genre. Started as a sci-fi reader, Star Wars was the first one I remember even before the movie came out.
One of my all-time favorites is Dune. I consider it a classic.
Mysteries has also been on my reading list. I remember 45 years ago reading Ellory Queen and loving it. Then I found out the author and I share a similar birthday.
Looking forward to participating in this group and hopefully added value.
MK

message 631: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Roberts Hi everyone

My reading goes in fits and starts according to work and other commitments!

I like reading books that help explore what drives people to do the things they do (more pretentiously, books that explore 'the human condition').
So I'm interested in books that explore and educate on people's beliefs, thoughts, feelings, motivations etc.

I read various books about Christianity but I also enjoy novels too including detective fiction as I find these too explore motivations that drive people! I also like the challenge of trying to 'solve' the puzzle (which I rarely do...)

Laurie

message 632: by Ginger (new)

Ginger Hello! My name is Ginger and I live in Texas. I was always an avid reader since I learned to read. Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys. The Bobbsey Twins. I had a nightly habit of reading myself to sleep. Oh! How I loved a good book. Aging eyes lead to bifocals and reading in bed became an irritant. And, my sleep pattern has never been the same,
I want to rekindle my love for reading. I need the escape I do enjoyed in the past. I care for my 94 year old mother. She is absolutely an avid reader. She has a bookcase+ full of good reads I haven’t read yet. Most are cozy mysteries. I’d love to Make 2021 my year to reclaim my reading passion and read down this house!
Now I’m off to read the group rules.

Try audiobooks. Or get a Kindle you can change the type size.

message 634: by Ginger (new)

Ginger I’ve done both - when I remember. I need to work on making reading a habit again. I’m usually watching a video in bed on my iPad. (Nightshade on to prevent the blue light from keeping me awake.) Looking forward to a challenge or commitment to kick me off.

message 635: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Reading isn't a habit for me. More like a compulsion. Can't go a day without reading.

message 636: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Roberts I know what you mean Ginger. I go in fits and starts and sometimes I 'waste' my downtime pottering away, and then realise I've run out of time to read. Getting into a habit sounds a good idea to me

message 637: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth Hi everyone!
I just noticed this group. And since I read a lot of cozies, I thought I'd join you.
I live in the Netherlands, close to the German border. With my husband, son (14), daughter (11), 2 rabbits and 5 budgies.
I work in a small bookshop. At the moment we are only open, because we also have PostNL and an ING bank counter. Frustrating, because we are not alliwed to sell books, magazines etc. Because that is not considered essential... (WHAT?? SINCE WHEN ARE BOOKS NOT ESSENTIAL????) So, with only a few customers, it is very boring to work at the moment...
Luckily I still have a lot of wonderful books to read! Mostly on my e reader, but every once in a while I also enjoy a real paper book. I read a lot of cozies, historical fiction, romance, fantasy. I don't like horror or very steamy books. And, since I have children, I don' t enjoy thrillers that much anymore. I guess I've gone soft. :-)

Hello, I am Maria from New Zealand. I am a Library Manager and avid book lover. I love cosy mysteries because it's great to sometimes read a great mystery without all the blood and gore:)

message 639: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Roberts Hi Elsbeth and Maria.

I have very similar book tastes to you Elsbeth albeit I do like thrillers too

Maria: I visited New Zealand for 2 weeks around 15 years ago. D'urville Island remains the most beautiful location on earth I have ever visited. I hope to visit again one day

message 640: by Shauna (new)

Shauna Hello everyone, my name is Shauna and I am reintroducing myself. I was apart of the Cozy Mysteries Yahoo group many years ago and remember some members. Life happens to all of us and so I got away from reading. However, if I learned nothing else in 2020, it was to do things you enjoy while you can because when they are taken away, you miss them. Thus, I am resuming my passion for reading cozies. I’m glad to be here again and to share with everyone.

Shauna

message 643: by Grahame (new)

Grahame Peace Hello, I'm new to the group, I've joined as a reader and author of historical, paranormal mysteries, which I would say falls into the cozy mystery category among others, I find my books difficult to categorize, they fall into several genres.

I also write what I call fashion fiction. I have a mystery series called The Ghost from the Molly House, there are currently eight books in the series, this is in addition to my fashion fiction. I have a new title which came out in December, The Ghost from the Molly House. Lady Fenella and The Fleet Diamonds. It's set in 1937 in England at a grand country estate. All my books can be found here on Goodreads.

I read many different genres of books, but I tend to like escapism, I worked in mental health services for many years, so I look for books/fiction which take me to a world full of humor and happy endings. I also like autobiographies and historical fiction.

Welcome, Mike! It's fascinating to know you are writing a book about the brain. I worked with children and adults who suffered brain injuries and birth defects which altered cognitive, as well as physical function. That was my occupation for 40 years. There was always so much to learn about the subject and about the individuals in my care. Again, welcome to the group!

Joe Stringer Hello everyone. I'm Joe. I live in the South and love good mysteries. I'm not a writer/author, and to be honest I really don't read very much, compared to most of y'all. But, my wife is a librarian and she brings me all sorts of different books to read. I do enjoy reading, I just don't feel like I have enough time to do it. I'm joining this group because I want to read more and maybe being connected to so many people who enjoy mysteries like I do, I would be inspired to do that.

Joe

Hi Joe. I live in the south too and also am not a writer/author. I started reading cozies in the last year and really like them because they're quick reads and fun, not full of symbolism and social impact. Just plain fun. Hope you find something you'll enjoy reading.
