Good job on your reading challenge! What's your goal for the new year?

message 502: by Bubu (new)

Bubu Hi Everyone, my name is Annette. I am a writer and researcher I love reading, writing and listening to stories. I live in Northern Utah by way of New York where I first fell in love with the New York City Library as a kid. I literally get lost in libraries and bookstores for hours. I absolutely enjoy Cozies, romantic comedies, biographies and historical fiction. I am so grateful to be a part of this group and look forward to getting to know everyone!

Robynne Lozier Hello. My name is Robynne, and I live in Canada. I have only recently started reading Cosy Mysteries but i do seem to like them, so I joined this group hoping to find and read more!! Thank you.

Brittany (booksandbottles) Hello, just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself to everyone as I'm new to the group. I fell in love with cozy mysteries when I found Leann Sweeney's "A Cats in Trouble Mystery" series at my local Barnes and Noble. I left the store with the entire series that day (and yes I did get quite a few odd looks buying so many books at once lol). I've been on a reading hiatus for about 1-2 years now because I just couldn't find a book that I wanted to read. I started many books but never seemed interested enough to finish them - hopefully that will change this year! As for a bit about myself, I currently have 5 cats and 3 ferrets and I love all things nerdy (i.e. video games, movies/tv shows, and comic con). I'm looking forward to getting some great suggestions and recommendations from everyone here!

beachbum bookworm Hey all!
My name is Tiffany, and im a mid-western raised girl living in Florida.

Books have always been a major part of my life. I remember loving books from when it was a nightly activity with my mom and dad. They made it fun and interactive, but when I realized that doing the action of reading (on my own) could give me unlimited experiences...I WAS HOOKED!
I have been a part of the Berenstain family, I lived in an abandoned boxcar with Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny until grandpa came along and gave us a home, lived on the prairie in the late 1800's with the Ingalls family, started a baby-sitting service with Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey, had my first taste of high school shenanigans with Jessica and Elizabeth, had many a sleepless night after spending time on fear street, and laughed and cried with the March sisters, experienced a revolution with Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer, experienced racism for the first time with Scout, Jem, and Dill, sailed with Huck and Jim, was shunned for adultery with Hester, and so many more. This was all before graduating high school.
As an adult the adventures haven't ceased. I went to Hogwarts and defeated he who must not be named, fought for medical emancipation with Anna, have had countless close calls with Stephanie and Lula, solved murder mysteries with Hannah...with a little baking on the side, and even spent some romantic nights getting to know rugged cowboys, firefighters, and hockey players to name a few. The list could go on forever. My experiences are endless.
Hope everyday is a great reading day!
smiles
Tiffany

Cathy Elliott Hi Folks:
I'm Cathy, a long-time Californian, living so far north, it's almost Oregon. :-) I've been a member of this Cozy Mysteries group for some years, but always a lurker. However, the lure of Agatha Raisin & Hamish Macbeth have brought me out to play.
Love-love mysteries of all kinds. Especially cozies, starting when I was a youth reading Nancy Drew. Later while adulting, I was blessed to work in a college library. All the new books came by my desk & I found current authors in this genre. Now, looking forward to getting new author referrals & meeting new friends.
BTW, pretty sure I already know you, Robynne from Canada. If I mention WCCW, am I right? If so, nice to see you here.

message 508: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Hi, I'm Michelle from Minnesota, hopefully soon Colorado. I have been a member of the group for years and kind of haven't really been on Goodreads as much as I'd like. But I'm trying to change that. Been enjoying one of this month's books and thought I'd post. Hoping to go back to school to become a Librarian.

Anyways, hello all.

message 509: by Peter (new)

Peter Barr I've been in the group for a while but I haven't participated in anything. I live in in the US android a lot of cozy mysteries.

I see the group read for February is Death of a Gossip and I'm interested in this. What is involved in one of these group reads?

message 510: by Heather L (new)

Heather L Peter, We do a Featured Author in this group, not a group read. That means you don’t have to read one of the books featured on the group home page, you can read any book by the Featured Author. Some have never read the author before, so will probably choose to read book one of one or both of her series, while others will pick up where they left off. We then talk about what we like/don’t like about the book or series, without spoiling plot for others.

message 511: by Christine (new)

Christine Welcome back Michelle and Peter.

Also Welcome to all new members. Looking forward to your recommendations.

message 512: by Jenna (new)

Jenna Badger Hi! I'm Jenna Lynn, and I love cozies! I come from a small town in AZ, and though I live in Phoenix now, I love that feel that cozies capture, the slowing down (less traffic, less noise, less hurry and more stars in the night sky) that reminds me of home. I love baking and crocheting and sewing, and of course reading. I'm an audio book reader when I'm cooking or cleaning, but my kindle is getting its fair share of use, too. I guess I'll take a book any way I can get it. :)

I'm also a brand new cozy mystery author. My first book is up for pre-order, so I don't quite consider myself published yet, but I'm close!

Hello to everyone! I'm glad to be here.

message 513: by Kait (new)

Kait Carson Hi, I'm Kait Carson and I've been on this group for a while, but not too active. I'm trying to change that. I write cozy and traditional mysteries set in Florida. A look at my book shelves reveals that my reading tends to be cozy, and in series. Obsession? Perhaps. I love starting with book 1 no matter where I met the series and reading straight through to the current release. Just finished Lea Wait's Mainely Needlepoint series, and loved it.

message 514: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Hi everyone,
M.J. here -- I'm a children's librarian with a love of gardening, cats, genealogy and libraries/bookshops so naturally I'm very drawn to cozies and traditional mysteries :-) Currently reading Caroline Graham's Midsomer Murders series after having watched it on t.v. for years.

Looking forward to chatting about cozies and finding new books to read!

message 515: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Hello!

I'm Lauren. I'm fairly new to Goodreads and cozies. I'm a born Floridian, avid traveler, and lover over all things bookish. I'm usually reading memoirs, biographies, literary fiction (historical, magical realism, and multi-generational novels) and my favorite kinds of tea are currently Wild Sweet Orange from Tazo and Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice.

I want to jump into the world of cozies even more, as it's been a while since I've become part of a fandom or community, so I would be very grateful for any suggestions on blogs, message boards, hubs and such so that I can dive into the cozy world even more!

Thanks!
L

message 517: by Cherry (new)

Cherry Good Morning! Excited to find this group. I've always been a fan of Cozy Mysteries and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one :) That being said, I've read my share of dull cozy mysteries so I'm looking forward to getting some first hand reviews of good things to read next.

message 518: by Susan (new)

Susan Bogush Hi everyone. thanks for letting me join. cozy mysteries is my favorite genre. Where it is from cats to ghosts I love them all. I am from Philly PA

message 521: by Lina (new)

Lina Hansen Hi,
I thought I had joined this group before, but it looks that I haven't. My bad. I'm an avid reader of cozy mysteries in all forms - I also read thriller and suspense but I'm not madly keen on gore and plots that keep racing ahead without ever stopping make me dizzy. I saw that the group was reading MC Beaton's Quiche of Death, and I recently re-read that, so I got interested.
I'm looking for recommendations for GOOD cozies to read. Yes, I'm also an author, but my biggest problem at the moment is finding engaging stories to read.

message 522: by Heather (new)

Heather Hi! I’m Heather and I’m new on good reads and love reading book! I’m currently reading An anonymous girl . I enjoy all genres.❤️

message 523: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Hi everyone! I'm Anthony. I'm an artist. I love drawing cartoons. I'm also a book buyer for an independent bookstore. I'm fairly new to cozy mysteries, and I've been loving them! I'm also looking to expand the selection of cozy mysteries at my store. I'm looking forward to discovering some great books here!

message 524: by M.L. (new)

M.L. Erdahl Hi, I'm Mike. I'm a cozy fan and author writing under the name ML Erdahl. My favorite part of cozies is the amateur sleuth. Pitting their wits and gumption against sinister plots makes for the most interesting types of characters.

message 525: by Natalie (new)

message 527: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I'm Melanie from Tennessee. I love cozies and Christian fiction. I'm married, retired, have no children....but I DO have two mischievous kitties and a mischievous kitty and a lazy retriever next door. I live on the outskirts of a small town akin to Mayberry, in a country subdivision of 10 houses and I go to a small church out in the country, as well.

message 528: by Monique (new)

Monique Bird Hello. I have been an avid reader my whole life. It wasn't until a vacation about ten + years ago when I was looking for some books to bring along that I stumbled across the Cozy Mystery genre. I had been reading them for a while, I just didn't have a name for them.

One of my first cozy series was Donna Andrews - Meg Langslow. I enjoy most genres of books but for travel, cozies are the best. Sitting on a beach following the main character as she/he solves a murder while falling in love.

I used to write fantasy but have recently started a cozy mystery series! I love it. I'm hoping to release book 2 in June! I'll talk more about that another day. Because I write cozies I HAVE to read them to keep up with my research =). So thank you in advance for your suggestions.

message 529: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline I am Jackie and I love to read. I have been an avid reader since I was a child - am 63 now. I love mysteries, legal thrillers, and cozy mysteries. I also love reading books on historical needlework. I believe the best cozy mystery series are the Goldy Bear Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson. I so wish she would write more. I listened to a lot of them on audiobooks and they were so incredible. The narrator was Barbara Rosenblat and her voice was exactly like what I imagine Goldy's is..... It made them perfect....

message 530: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Cecil I am Rebecca I live in Central Florida. I love to read. I read mostly mysteries and suspense. I like cozy mysteries too. Me and my hubby adopted our 2 granddaughters 6 years ago they are now 6 and 7 birthdays this summer with 13 months apart it is a trial at my age. Reading is my fun time, my sainty, my out. I have been on goodreads for 3 years now. I have nit been in this group that long though.

message 531: by T.G. (new)

T.G. Campbell Hello everyone! I'm new to the group after seeing a post from a fellow member on my Goodsreads feed. I didn't know the group existed until then but I'm really pleased I stumbled across it.

I love the cozy mystery genre and have spent a long time studying the mechanics of the traditional 'clue-puzzle' mystery first used by Agatha Christie. I love Agatha Christie's books but have also enjoyed reading Doyle, Chandler and modern indie authors. I wrote my dissertation at university on the Social and Cultural Importance of the Works of Agatha Christie.

I love history, specifically the Victorian Era and the creation and development of the Metropolitan Police/Scotland Yard. Due to this I've been lucky enough to speak personally to Martin Fido, co-author of the Official Encyclopedia of Scotland Yard, a retired metropolitan police officer who worked at the Bow Street Police Station in London, and a retired CID detective

I've also worked for the Witness Service, a charity set up to assist witnesses and victims of crime through the process of giving evidence. I therefore have some knowledge of how the criminal court system and criminal justice system works. I'm happy to answer any questions people have about this. Please feel free to send me an inbox message.

Hello! I'm Natalie!
I've always loved reading any type of mystery book, but just got into cozy mysteries pretty recently. After watching tons of the Hallmark movies and mysteries cozy mystery movies, I decided to give the cozy book genre a try and fell in love! I also love YA books.
I love tennis, any form of art, the ocean, Disney, Marvel, Broadway and Hamilton :)
I'm looking forward to participating in some fun challenges and things in this group!

message 533: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Hi, Natalie. Glad you're enjoying the cozy mystery world.

message 534: by Jen (new)

Jen Pitts Hi! I'm Jen. My obsession with mysteries started with Nancy Drew, then Agatha Christie, and never stopped. I'll read just about any type of mystery, but cozies hold a special place in my heart.

I'm now a published author so I get to create my own characters and mysteries. Being a reader and a writer is the best of both worlds! :)

message 535: by Chip (new)

Chip Tudor I've been a professional, freelance advertising copywriter for 20+ years. I am also a Christian author and pastor. I've written four Christian, non-fiction books and completed my first Christian Detective novel March of 2019. My favorite author is Robert B. Parker who wrote the Spencer Detective novels. I've patterned my detective novel after his style although it is written from a Christian perspective. I'm currently working on the next book in this series.

message 536: by Mary (new)

Mary Hello Chip, and welcome to the group. I’d love to read some of your books. They sound like good reads!

message 537: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Hi! My name is Catherine and I am a newbie author. I had no idea what a cozy mystery was until I joined the kindle community! Still, I'm not sure I can fully differentiate a cozy mystery from a plainly humorous one but I try my best!

message 538: by Chip (new)

Chip Tudor Mary,

I'm happy to send you any/all of the books to read and review. Let me know which ones and in what form you would like to receive.

message 540: by Karen (new)

Karen Hi, I'm Karen from Arizona, and I've published three Victorian mysteries that I didn't actually know were "cozies" until my marketing person at Harper Collins told me they were. I was just writing mysteries about young women amateur sleuths set in 1870s London. Who knew?! I grew up on Mary Stewart, Phyllis Whitney, and Victoria Holt (I'm dating myself, I know) and especially love mysteries that are about characters who have to learn something from their past in order to solve the mystery in their present. I'm looking forward to discovering some new books here ... I learn something about writing from every book I read. (My website is www.karenodden.com, if you want to learn more about my books.) Cheers!

message 541: by Tina (new)

Tina Tea Hello all. I'm Tina. I was born in Korea, moved around a lot, and I'm currently living in New York.

It's been over a month since the quarantine began over here, and I started to lose my mind a little, which drove me to join the Goodreads! This is the first group I joined. When I saw "Cozy Mystery" I just couldn't resist.

My first cozy mystery book is the dessert murder series by Joanne Fluke. I still remember my school library bookshelf decorated with her mystery books. I was drone to her books because of the delicious chocolate chip cookies, muffins, and cakes on the cover. I think the most recent cozy mystery book I read is Maisie Dobbs #1 and 2 which I enjoyed a lot.

I'm really excited to join this group. English isn't my first language, so I'll probably make some mistakes here and there, but I will try my best. I can't wait to get to know you all :)

message 542: by Lili (new)

Lili hi, I'm from UK, love cats (I have 4), reading, scrapbooking/art journaling/cardmaking, music and lots more. My favourite 'cozy mysteries' authors include Agatha Christie, M J Trow (very witty and funny), Hazel Holt, Marian Babson, Dorothy Cannell, Ngaio Marsh, Phyllis A Whitney, Patricia Wentworth, Andrew Wilson's Agatha Christie based series, Elizabeth Peters ((Vicky Bliss, not read any Amelia Peabody) and Shirley Rousseau Murphy. I also like 'not so cozy' and 'definitely not cozy' mysteries eg Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum and Lizzie and Diesel), Ellie Griffith, Kate Ellis, Alex Lake, Emma Kavanagh, Belinda Bauer, Catriona McPherson) When I'm not reading mysteries, I like chick lit, true crime, and I'll occasionally read one of my old 'bodice rippers' just for a laugh! Also I've ploughed my way through books on ADD, which I have a pretty extreme case of, and I'm a recent survivor of a narcissistic relationship so reading books on recovery.

message 543: by Marianna (new)

I read a wide variety of fiction genres except horror. For non-fiction, I enjoy gardening, nature, history, and genealogy. Happy Reading!

Karen 150-200 books a year! Wow, Pam, that's a lot! I just finished two books that are not cozy mysteries ... The Splendid and the Vile (about Churchill in WWII early days; he was a force) and Virgil Wander ... although Virgil Wander has an element of cozy mysteries that I love most ... and there was a bit of a mystery (someone missing for ten years and suddenly his father turns up wondering about him). It's the small town, and the author does an amazing job at drawing out the different personalities--the boy whose father vanished when he was 7, the retired movie maker, the man who can't fix plumbing, the one who rescued a sinking car from a frozen pond. It's all the backstories and bits of humanity. I really loved it. Reminded me of A Man Called Ove, if any of you read that (also not a cozy mystery, but cozy, set in the small town, good characters). :)

I tend to read a book every 2-3 days with some taking longer and others only taking a day. I've debated adding the Churchill book to my TBR.
