Gingerlily - The Full Wild Would it be more ridiculous if it were dodos?

I think so, turtles have an inherent stability which dodos lack

They also have the advantage of not being extinct.

Jim Gingerlily - They also have the advantage of not being extinct. .."

Which is true, but perhaps it was being used in huge numbers to support the world that led to their extinction, and they were then replaced with turtles?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild The dodo was the first attempt. After the trial period they decided to go with something more stackable and less squishable. And more plentiful.

M.T. McGuire Did a bit of editing today. Glad this thread is continuing to be a bit nuts in my absence.

Cheers all

MTM

Gingerlily - The Full Wild We do our best, Jim and I, with little help.

Jim nuts, that would do it, stackable nuts

message 2309: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean 500 for me yesterday, plus some editing.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Jim wrote: "nuts, that would do it, stackable nuts"

But are any nuts actually stackable? Most of them are a rounded or irregular shape. How about bars of peanut brittle? They would certainly be stackable.

Kath Middleton I've written nearly two thousand words to an author! Then a very few words to my writing blog. I never have time to read long blog posts so I assume others are the same.
But now I'm a few hundred into the book so I hope to crack a thousand (or as near as possible) for that before I need to sort out tea.

message 2312: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire 180 yesterday 288 today but a fair bit of rejigging and one is done ready to send to an anthology! Woot.

Plus I now have the beginnings of another short ready to work on and the short-turned-long is gelling a bit more. And I made myself laugh out loud when one of my characters hid a portal in his mouth and accidentally swallowed it. He’s now taken a dose of salts and is waiting in the lavvy with a colander. Sorry too much information.

Holiday is lovely, we are in Haro at the moment, in Spain. Tapas last night, posh dinner tonight.

Cheers

Will Macmillan Jones I've got a story line for the next Banned Underground! Courtesy of a piece of news seen on Facebook, which just goes to show.

Ha! So Facebook is good for something! I have a character called Betsy Coed ... I forgot the w but I doubt my foreign readers could cope with it ...

BTW I got the obscured by clouds joke in your latest. ;-)

message 2315: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton It came to 1300+ eventually today.

I was playing the album (on vinyl, of course) while writing that chapter!

Kath Middleton 1473 this morning. Totally ready for some grub now!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild I might have a few spare bars of peanut brittle

message 2319: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton I had home made ham and vegetable rice. It was lovely!

message 2320: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 1418 today. Total now stands at 66,115. Definitely novel territory. And not finished yet!

message 2321: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire 1,200 today. Not sure they will escape a substantial rewrite but the gist of the argument is there. Lots of ideas though, which is handy but can be perplexing. Big pooing to be made and I keep wanting to try and make it in to many scenes but at the same time, when I find the right place ...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Big pooing to be made???

message 2323: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "Big pooing to be made???"

Ah come on, we've all done it!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Kath wrote: "Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "Big pooing to be made???"

Yes, ok, but we don't usually post about it!

message 2325: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Perhaps it's an occasion for pride?

message 2326: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Maybe there could be an award, or a scroll?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Will wrote: "Maybe there could be an award, or a scroll?"

Scroll down past it....

M.T. McGuire Omg! Big point! Fucking auto correct. Mwahahahaaargh!

message 2329: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Btw when I can type it in under two years remind me to tell you the old boy in the window story.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild M.T. wrote: "Omg! Big point! Fucking auto correct. Mwahahahaaargh!"

Hahahahahaha! I really couldn't figure out what you meant to say. I thought McMini had taken over your iPad or something.

Kath Middleton 1476 today. Tomorrow, here I come!

message 2332: by Jim (new)

Jim doing a Tallis story for a blog share and it's already over 2000 words!

message 2333: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Did 380 or something yesterday and today have done 600 and something so far, may do a few more as there’s another half hour or so on the motorway.

Cheers

MTM

message 2334: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 1183 today. Knocking off now as I'm at the end of a chapter.

message 2335: by Jim (new)

Jim A Tallis blog in at 800 words and I ought to get a normal blog post done as well today

message 2336: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 2004 today. Smashed the 70k barrier!

message 2337: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones That's some going, Kath! Looking forward to reading the results.

message 2338: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Hold not thy breath, young William. This won't see the light till next summer, I reckon.

message 2339: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Did another 600 on the 600 I mentioned, none yesterday, none today.

Well done Kath, great going.

message 2340: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones That's a terribly long gestation period, Kath!

message 2341: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton It needs a damned good editing as the plot evolved as I wrote. I didn't want to break the thread of the writing by going back and adding characters or changing things, so that's got to be done in second draft. Then I'll get my editor to have a look. He's great on strengthening plot points and sorting out my story. Then I'll listen to it on my kindle to pick up tiny things I'm not happy with. In between, I have a book I want to publish at the end of September that I want to have another go through - and the editor has a 12k short story to have a look at first. So - it takes as long as it takes.

message 2342: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton And another 1429 today!

message 2343: by Jim (new)

Jim I'm at the stage where I realise that the Norns may have woven a different story to the one I started telling :-)

message 2344: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Haha! They do that.

message 2345: by Jim (new)

Jim Actually it's interesting.
Benor is perhaps more cynical, more suspicious, more likely to spot things.
But of course with him, I write as narrator.

Tallis, whilst not thick, and not overly trusting, is 'somewhat' self-absorbed so does tend to overlook things that might seem obvious because he's too busy thinking about something else.
And of course he's the narrator.

So it's tricky getting the balance with him :-)

message 2346: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire I find that things definitely alter from the way I’ve perceived. Case in point the ‘short’ now at about 78k. The bits I thought might be hard to make credible seem to be hanging together with far more realism than I thought while some of the other bits, which I thought would be easy, aren’t hanging together so well. Did 200 words yesterday but not much meaty writing. Have missed the window today - it’s meet the parents day and we’re doing a late one, leaving at 5.30 and home at 8.30. Should be fun though, McMini’s cousins are there.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire Woot over 500 today, left it in the middle of a difficult scene which I'm handling rather ham fistedly at the moment but I think once I know what I'm doing more it will straighten out.

message 2349: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Well done Mary! Won't get any done till Monday now, but it's winding up well.

message 2350: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Backatcha Kath! Happy Anniversary, although you probably won’t get round to reading this until afterwards!
