Kath Middleton Nothing! I had a great time playing, though!

Jim Kath wrote: "Nothing! I had a great time playing, though!"

which is what counts :-)

message 2253: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton It does. He's at the stage where he's learning words so fast. Today's new ones were 'Dad-dad' - Granddad - and 'Aldi bags' - we were waiting outside while his dad bought some stuff for tea. Every time shoppers came out with their purchases he pointed and yelled, 'Aldi bags!'

message 2254: by Jim (new)

Jim now there's something to work into a story :-)

message 2255: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 1300 today. Going for a cuppa now!

message 2256: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 1340 today. Better stop and do a bit of cleaning. Expecting guests!

message 2257: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean 500 today so far - though an article rather than my main project.

message 2258: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Tomorrow I'm starting on the second draft of the latest space opera. So I'll not be counting additional words at all.

message 2259: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire I did 1272 today, but none yesterday. Well, you can't win 'em all. Thinking it will probably fall by the wayside while I'm on holiday but dead chuffed with it and hoping I should be able to get it up and running again more quickly when I come home.

Cheers

MTM

Kath Middleton Yes, I'm First Draft. The exciting bit. I expect to add words at a slower rate when I go through for a first edit, as the story evolved so stuff needs adding earlier on.

message 2261: by Jim (new)

Jim I've been working on an ending
The story didn't really have one

message 2262: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones I've just reread Larry Niven's Ringworld, and that didn't have an ending either

message 2263: by Jim (new)

Jim I don't quite match his sales figures :-)

message 2264: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton That's the thing about a ring. It doesn't have an end.

message 2266: by David (new)

David Hadley Jim wrote: "I've been working on an ending

I had to stop before the end of my current first draft as I realised the ending I was heading towards no longer matched the story I'd written up to then.

So I have to go back and rewrite the thing up towards the new ending.

message 2267: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Just had a short story accepted into an anthology for Fox Spirit Books, which is nice.

message 2268: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Blimey, good going folks. I edited a bit this morning but didn’t do much. Might have another chance later though.

Kath Middleton 1254 this morning. I really enjoy first draft writing.

message 2270: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire I've a meaty scene coming up that I'm really going to enjoy writing!

Managed 15 mins today but only a few words. Still, I got my 10 mins in so I can chalk it up as a win! I have to stop and edit one, really as it's due in end of August and it does need a bit of a going over before then.

Cheers

MTM

Alicia Ehrhardt Those are the satisfying ones, MT, even if hard. Love them.

message 2272: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Whoop! Today I mostly wrote... 1752 words. I shall award myself... a full ironing basket! :(

message 2273: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 2294 today. To give my brain a rest I'm off out to flower arranging!

message 2274: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Woot 1,117 which is pretty good on holiday.

message 2275: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Blooming well done, Mary. I consider a thousand a good day, any day.

Really doing well, Kath. Keep it up - I am green...

message 2277: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Shucks, thanks Kath! :-)

The iPad is on charge in this morning. However, I have a short for an anthology printed out ready to edit so I’ll use the morning writing window to start on that.

message 2278: by Jim (new)

Jim Kath wrote: "Blooming well done, Mary. I consider a thousand a good day, any day."

yes, a thousand is a good milestone, much more than that you can get into serious editing territory :-)

message 2279: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Thanks everyone, I did a whole load of editing in the car. Over my ten minutes again. Not many words, a couple of hundred? Three hundred? But spent the time and fixed a couple of significant niggles which was great.

message 2280: by Jim (new)

Jim Two blog posts so they'll find homes in due course

message 2281: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Only about 30 words today as I've been out gadding about. Significant words, however, as they are the blurb for the WIP.

message 2282: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 906 today but I've been visiting this morning and I'm off out to pick tomatoes now. total currently 60,650. :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Kath wrote: "906 today but I've been visiting this morning and I'm off out to pick tomatoes now. total currently 60,650. :)"

Tomatoes or words?

message 2284: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Both! I'm giving toms away by the bagful!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Kath wrote: "Both! I'm giving toms away by the bagful!"

I could use a couple of bags :)

message 2286: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Can you collect?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Kath wrote: "Can you collect?"

How about I send Brian Cox to collect for me?

message 2288: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton I may be gone some time!

message 2289: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton 1247 today. Total is now 61,897. Not bad!
Nothing tomorrow as we're having another grandson day.

message 2290: by Jim (new)

Jim spent today weaving another thread through a story :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Jim wrote: "spent today weaving another thread through a story :-)"

Ah! Fiction's rich tapestry. Or is it burberry?

message 2292: by Jim (new)

Jim probably tapestry
I cannot see Tallis doing burberry to be honest

Gingerlily - The Full Wild No, he has better taste than that. Paisley, though....

message 2294: by Jim (new)

Jim ideally something more fractal :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Jim wrote: "ideally something more fractal :-)"

A bit of Mandelbrot.

Jim Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "Jim wrote: "ideally something more fractal :-)"

now there is a challenge. Normally people can describe some investigations as peeling an onion, you go down through the layers until you get to the answer

But with the Mandelbrot, the deeper you delve the more likely you are to find yourself scratching the surface of something apparently identical

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Its turtles all the way down!!

message 2298: by Jim (new)

Jim Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "Its turtles all the way down!!"

I think Pratchett said something similar

actually an infinite column of turtles is inherently no more ridiculous than a big bang where all the matter in a universe appeared in an instant, from nowhere :-)
