Lbobzien I am just a tween but I've been trying to write at least 200 words for practice. It is surprisingly fun.
:-)

It's also the best way to learn the craft of writing :-)

Will Macmillan Jones Suddenly I've found myself 6K into a 50K sequel to the space romp I wrote around Christmas.

I'm still amazed how much fun it is writing this stuff.

message 954: by Tim (new)

Tim Hurrah! Actual words: 382 of 'em! :D

message 955: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Yay Will and Tim. I have a lot of ideas about my new series which should be fun.

message 956: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Excellent 216. Coming to the end of this tweaky edit.

message 957: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Good going. just under two weeks and I should be able to start writing again.

message 958: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Last day in France. Back to Blighty this avo. It has been an absolute gas. Then Easter, the Wednesday visit to the old dears and back to writing.

message 959: by David (last edited Apr 13, 2017 02:07AM) (new)

David Hadley I've been doing about 1000 words a day - give or take - on the 1st draft over the last couple of weeks. So that was all good.

But after the bank holiday I have the jury service to do, so after today I don't know when I'll get back to it.

Also I'm really close to having the final draft book ready for proof reading, but I doubt if that will be ready before the jury business either, so that will more than likely be left in limbo too.

message 960: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Wrote one verse to a folk tune yesterday. Should be plotting next book but we had a day out and my mind was elsewhere! It's sort of taking shape, though.

message 961: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton A final (perhaps!) 463 words on the book I'm editing.

message 962: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Another 1710 on the new sci fi.

message 963: by Jim (last edited Apr 13, 2017 08:57AM) (new)

Jim 1500 words for Tallis
A slightly different feel just to remind people it is fantasy :-)

message 964: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire OK. Nothing on the book but I did manage a 2000 word blog post.

Loved this one. I read it that he lives in the picture and pops into the real world from time to time.

message 966: by Jim (new)

Jim How you read it is how it is
You don't expect Tallis or I to know what's really going on? :-)

message 967: by Jim (new)

Jim Trying something new with Tallis. Decided on a story I can sell as a short 'stand alone' and see if I can lure any of the magazines into biting.
Much to my shock I've done over 4,000 words this afternoon.
It'll need editing!

I thought you might know but not tallis! Congrats on the words.

My ' short' is beginning to come alive. Lots of work needed though.

message 969: by Jim (new)

Jim Hey I only write about what Tallis tells me
Except when Mutt or some of the others have a quiet word :-)

message 970: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire :-)

message 971: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham No time to write a word at present, but taking notes on the incipient novella with me on my internet/computer free three day trip in the hope that the brain might do some work when I'm not looking.

Has anyone used Pronoun?

And does anyone know if Amazon's current push to paperback when you set up an ebook is the same as CreateSpace or not?

Oof, good one! I read it differently, that he'd finally painted himself into the world he was portraying, and wasn't coming back.

message 973: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones I was wondering if Amazon were preparing to ditch Createspace as a separate company, myself.

message 974: by Lexie (last edited Apr 18, 2017 02:59AM) (new)

Lexie Conyngham Yes, that thought crossed my mind.

message 975: by Jim (new)

Jim Lexie wrote: "Oof, good one! I read it differently, that he'd finally painted himself into the world he was portraying, and wasn't coming back..."

Obvious Tallis wasn't entirely sure himself ;-)

message 976: by Jim (new)

Jim Will wrote: "I was wondering if Amazon were preparing to ditch Createspace as a separate company, myself."

Sell it off or just let it wither?

message 977: by Tim (new)

Tim Got in another couple of A5 pages this morning. First two chapters are pretty much done, and the body count is rising . . .

Withering, I thought.

message 979: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones I've lost the link, but I saw a very interesting blog post on the subject

Seems that you can't order either proofs or discounted author copies via the KDP system. So no stock fpr signings, book fairs or conventions if you don't use CS

message 980: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham In that case I need it!

message 981: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley Had a few real world distractions lately but managed to edit a few chapters since my last update including new material.

message 982: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White Currently I feel like the White Rabbit scurrying along to try and get into the wonderland that is writing. I fear the next stop is the Mad Hatter's tea party...

message 983: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire I'm feeling a bit meh. It'll pass though. I just have to push on.

message 984: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Not much hope of getting much done for a bit but hoping stuff might be stewing up there somewhere. Nearly finished the second folk song, though. Trouble is, I write the best part of a verse then the last line writes itself as something daft.

thought that was obligatory, worked for Rambling Sid Rumbold :-)

message 986: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Yes, but 'Sweet is the path with the flowers where she walks Purple her face and her eyes out on stalks' is not ideal!

message 987: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Lexie wrote: "Yes, but 'Sweet is the path with the flowers where she walks Purple her face and her eyes out on stalks' is not ideal!"

Mwah hahaharhgh... it's definitely a bit Mulligan and O'Hare.

message 988: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ I've not managed to get my head into any writing this weekend, even though I've spent it on the sofa. Just can't seem to get back into it. Going to try some short sprint things to see if I can get back in the swing of things again.
Have been doing some transcription though which has been quite fun.

message 989: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton I wrote a drabble on Saturday. Under wraps till BookHippo has featured it.

message 990: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash Over the weekend I wrote a surprising 1500 word short story from nothing. I'd seen a call for submissions I just couldn't resist and had to come up with something sharpish before the 26th April closing date. Winners (don't know how many) get to read their story at Waterstones Piccadilly, their flagship store. The theme was all things to do with Nationalism, Identity, Belonging.

message 991: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire I spent the entire day trying to get my bloody computer to let me browse the directories on my flash drive. Needless to say it works just fine on every other computer in the house. I have an old one I can use for back up but it's not nearly as convenient. The whole thing is most irritating.

message 992: by Jim (new)

Jim I did two blog posts, one for each, because I've to go down to London tomorrow for meetings and not going to have any writing time until Friday

message 993: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash Am currently in the marketing & Pr prep stage for the new novel release later summer. About 5 pitch pieces, plus a couple of essays and a load of social media graphics. It's not real writing though. Think that's why I've been writing so many short stories around the edges, just to be doing something creative

message 994: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Grr, finished the folk song, really pleased with it, then thought I'd listen once more to the tune before sending the words off to the composer. Realised that while I'd been away and working on it as I travelled, I had completely misremembered the first and third thirds of each verse. Radical rewrite in order. And I still haven't started the novella for midsummer.

message 995: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Oops! Never mind, sounds like it should be good.

I managed about 650 words today, but made a bit of a breakthrough with a scene that was troubling me so I'm happy.

Cheers

MTM

message 996: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Added about 500 but removed about 150. I consulted a member of the police force for my first thriller with regard to rankings and responsibilities -and daft little things like what they'd call one another. Hugely helpful but now I need to bring it all into line. There will be addings and subtractings for a while, I think.

That's why I try to avoid contemporary fiction now - too many technicalities! What's Georgian stays Georgian.
