I’ve had a similar experience recently. Used to read every day, for most of my life, and then two years ago stopped. Just a few months ago, I started again. Welcome back to reading :-)

K.R. Fraser Hello everyone,

My author's name is KR Fraser, but friends know me as Kate. I've been an avid reader since I was a small child, and have always loved the supernatural myths, legends and creatures. That love has carried me from reader into author, and yet I never left my first love. However, I must admit I'm a bit old-fashioned, because I hate ebooks. I'm a good old-fashioned print reader, lol. I just love the way a book feels in my hands, and there is nothing like curling up by the fire with a warm blanket and a good book when the weather outside is cold and miserable.

I am always on the lookout for new written dark fantasy about Vampires in particular. The last really good series I read was The Noble Dead by Barb and JC Hendee. So I look forward to hearing what fellow readers are suggesting today.

Kate

I prefer print books myself. I'll read an e-book when that's all I can get, but I'll always prefer the feel and smell of a real book, as you say. I love the image of curling up reading in front of a fire :-)

Amen and amen! I actually built a library room in my house, because I wanted that space just to be among my books and to sit in there and curl up with a good book. It's my favorite room.

message 2274: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Post That's a great idea :-)

K.R. Fraser D.G. wrote: "That's a great idea :-)"

Yes, it is! Every book lover should have one. I have my books categorized much like a library, though mine are only sorted by topics. When I want to escape from the world, or have had a particularly busy day, that is my go-to for relaxation. It is so much better than watching TV, and there are many weekends where instead of turning on the box, I simply go in there and dive into a favorite book.

message 2276: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Post Most of our books are in my study, so I am surrounded by the through the work day. I know you’re right about the boob tube, but I must confess to being quite enthralled by it these days.

message 2277: by K.R. (new)

K.R. Fraser I think I got away from the TV more when my kids were growing up, because they wanted to watch it so much that it actually started to annoy me when it was on. Now, my granddaughter, at the tender age of five, is a TV-holic and never wants to do anything else. Considering how important imagination is to a human being, seeing her so addicted to watch TV worries me. So I encourage alternative activities when she is with Grandma.

message 2278: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Post That’s good. And being outside and playing with friends is so important, too. I hope we find a cure / vaccine for covid soon, because it’s isolating a lot of kids.

I agree, and socialization is important at all ages. This pandemic is also spawning another pandemic on a global level with mental health issues that include depression and a whole collection of other mental illnesses. I honestly think it's one of the things that has led to the violence in the US riots. In the past they were always able to conduct peaceful rallies concerning serious issues of nationwide proportions. But this time, it's like they have completely lost the ability to control themselves. I don't understand it. I just pray for all those caught in the crossfire.

Alan Hi, I'm Alan from St. Louis, Missouri. I write horror.

message 2283: by Lila (new)

Lila Fenn Hello everyone.

My name is Lila Fenn and I've been a longtime fan of anything vampire and paranormal, including the Masquerade game series. At one point, was a co-storyteller in a 60+ person V:tM group. Since I've gotten a bit older and not as keen to run around in public playing make-believe, I've turned to writing. Where I can still play make-believe in the safety of my own home.

I look forward to getting to know everyone along the way!

message 2284: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Welcome Alan and Lila... Take a look around and give a shout out with any questions:)

message 2285: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Smurthwaite Hi, all! I'm Hollie and I'm new. I've always had a fondness for all things vampire, and I'm glad to find this group. The Deathly Hollow series is probably my favorite, but I also love me some Charlaine Harris. Mostly I read urban fantasy and paranormal rather than horror, but it's all good.

Thank you. I must confess, trying to find my way around is still a bit of a challenge. I started out as more of an old-schooler, but I'm learning how to navigate my way around the digital world of these groups.
