message 1808: by Byron (new)

Byron Fortin Hello everyone!
My name is Byron, and I am an author of Dark Fantasy. My favourite writers by far are Anne Rice and J.R.R. Tolkien. Infact, I even have a lifesize sculpture of Tom Cruise as the Vampire Lestat sitting in my living room as we speak. That's just me feeding my infactuation for good story telling. You might say I'm slightly obsessed, but I love the lore and simply adore anything that has a hunger for flirting with the more provacative of paranormal tendencies. Especially those with a flare for the dramatic found within. I'm guessing I'm not alone in this. 😈 😇

Happy to be here and share the experience! Thank-you for inviting me in. I can't wait to bite down on some discussions, and am looking forward to hearing from you all!

message 1821: by Tricia (last edited Aug 03, 2019 05:49AM) (new)

Tricia Schneider Hello! My name is Tricia. I've been addicted to the supernatural since I was at least 5 years old. My first vampire love was Barnabas Collins and my favorite werewolf is Quentin from the 1960s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. My mother got me hooked watching reruns when I was a kid. That show had everything! Witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, curses, time travel and more. It introduced me to the world of the supernatural. Ever since, I've been addicted to reading, watching movies and TV shows with anything that even hints at the paranormal.

Some of my favorite authors are Kelley Armstrong, Laurell K. Hamilton, Maggie Shayne, Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dawn Thompson, and Katie Macalister. I read mostly romance and urban fantasy, but not exclusively. I look forward to discovering more books and new authors to read in this group!

message 1822: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Hello Lauren, welcome to the group!

Hey Tricia, my mom and I watched Dark Shadows as well... loved it... welcome to the group!

message 1823: by Dee (new)

Dee Welcome Tricia!! I used to race home from school to watch Dark Shadows.....not reruns......lol. Hang around this group and we will add to your TBR pile, no worries. Check out the August Muse.....we reading Jennifer Estep. Sing out if you need anything!

message 1824: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda Hi, Tricia. As a kid, "Dark Shadows" was on. Like Dee, not as a re-run! I thought it was all about vampires. I didn't know werewolves prowled around in that series. I couldn't watch because it was part of the daytime soap line-up and too early for me to get home in time to view.

I love Katie MacAlister! I am behind on Charlaine Harris, except I did finish Sookie. The rest I'm not familiar with as I also read other genres.

LOL, after that long monologue, welcome!

message 1825: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider Hi Theresa! Thank you! It's nice to meet other Dark Shadows fans!

Dee, my mom used to run home from school to watch DS, too. You're part of a special group. :)

MadameZelda, I absolutely love vampires, but werewolves are up there, too. Chris Jennings and Quentin Collins were both cursed to become werewolves. That storyline led Barnabas into the past again, to the late 1800s. It was probably my favorite part of the show. I even bought some DS books about Barnabas and Quentin solving family mysteries. Yeah, I'm slightly addicted. lol

Thank you everyone for welcoming me! This looks like a great group!

message 1829: by Paige (new)

Paige W Hi, I'm Paige! I've been obsessed with vampires ever since I can remember. I love Halloween and spooky things. I blame too much Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a kid. Some of my favorite vampire books are Interview with the Vampire and The Silver Kiss. And of course the classic Dracula. I also enjoyed the Charlene Harris books. I know this is a show, but I loved Penny Dreadful-- so if there's any books that echo that, I'm in.

While I definitely like me some vampire romance, I also like a very solid and engaging plot with good writing. And I like my vampires with an edge of danger to them.
I can deal with werewolves, etc., but only as an aspect of a vampire book-- I don't do werewolves on their own. Don't ask me why, it's just never been an interest to me.

I'm definitely looking forward to discovering new books, especially any stand alone recommendations.

message 1830: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda Hi, Paige. You definitely like PNR/UF of the vampire persuasion! I don't know of any standalones as I favor series, but this group will know and it has a lot of vampire lovers.

message 1831: by Katter (new)

Katter Welcome to the group, ladies!!

message 1832: by Dee (new)

Dee Hey Paige!! Welcome to the group!! I don’t know any stand alone books, either. All that I read are series. We can definitely add to your TBR pile. Have a look around and sing out if you need any help!

message 1833: by David (new)

David Odle Hey all! Some seriously interesting threads in here!

I've recently joined a few forums that discuss books, most more general like horror groups or fantasy groups, and what's become shockingly evident is how many books I HAVEN'T read! My favorite nefarious creature is the vampire, thus I sought out a group focused totally on vampires. I'm excited!
Yes, I'm a writer, as many of us are, and I write Urban Fantasy with a vampire focus, but I'm seriously interested in learning about the stories out there that I've not heard of yet. The creepy ones.
I'm a fan of The King, but also F. Paul Wilson, Richard Laymon, and I love what Cronin did with the genre.

I look forward to getting to know you!

message 1834: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Welcome David and Paige... We look forward to getting to know you both... Look around the threads and give us a shout out with any questions!

Paige, so many of us are Buffy fans... Angel or Spike???

message 1835: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny I vote Spike!!

message 1836: by Paige (new)

Paige W Theresa wrote: "Welcome David and Paige... We look forward to getting to know you both... Look around the threads and give us a shout out with any questions!

You know, I like them both for different reasons. I think maybe Angel, just because he has a good heart. Spike definitely cared for her, but some of his behavior is...not good. But we love to hate him, right? He wasn't given a completely fair chance either, I'd say.

message 1837: by Katter (new)

Katter Welcome new members!

+ 1 for team Spike.

message 1838: by MadameZelda (last edited Aug 06, 2019 09:56PM) (new)

MadameZelda Welcome, David!

um, I never saw...LOL..I had to go back a page because I forgot!...I've never seen even one episode of Buffy.

Oh, I saw the one with Donald Sutherland. Is that right?

message 1839: by Dee (new)

Dee I never saw Buffy, either!!

Welcome, David!!

message 1840: by Danielle Gypsy Soul (last edited Aug 07, 2019 07:58AM) (new)

Danielle Gypsy Soul What - no Buffy? You are seriously missing out. I'm definitely in the Spike camp :)

Welcome David and Paige!

message 1841: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny The original Buffy movie was really good too...no Spike or Angel but still an awesome movie

message 1842: by Danielle Gypsy Soul (new)

Danielle Gypsy Soul I actually wasn't a fan of the movie - it was a lot more silly than the series was but a lot of people really liked it. The series was darker and I really loved the relationships between all the characters.

message 1843: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny I definitely also liked the series better, but the movie kind of set up the whole Buffyverse, and showed the reason she was kicked out of that first school. Nice background, and good actors.

message 1844: by Katter (new)

Katter The Buffy movie was okay, but I generally think of them both as unique tales. The series is much better, while the movie just helps people get familiar with what's going on.

Plus the movie doesn't have Giles or Spike so it's not that impressive!

message 1845: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I was definitely an Angel girl, but I loved Spike too in the end:)

message 1847: by [[ Frankie ]] (new)

[[ Frankie ]] Hey, everyone! I can’t remember if I introduced myself or not (I don’t see it, so I’m guessing that’s a negative), so here goes . . .

My name is Francesca, but since none of you are my grandmother (I don’t think?), please - call me Frankie. ;p

➞ I am a Goodreads fanatic... literally on GR ALL THE TIME. & I love it.

➞ Reading challenge obsessed... (of course, who here isn’t?)

➞ Reader of any & all genres, but my favorites are historical fiction, fantasy, mystery/thriller... & here lately, I’ve been really getting into paranormal & PNR (especially vampires & any shifters, really). :]

➞ I love baking, astrology, writing (flash fiction, preferably - when I have time) & playing with my toy poodle, Ninja. & I’m ALWAYS down to make new friends.

➞ I tend to be a huge cover whore. If a cover catches my attention, or I think it’s beautiful, screw the description or synopsis, I’m going for it! (Yes, I know... I’m not supposed to judge a book by its cover... & yes, I’ve been let down I don’t know how many times because of it. But what can I say? I’ll never learn my lesson.)

Well, I guess that’s about it for now. I feel like I just uploaded a profile to a dating site or something. LOL! (Oooh, that just made me think... they should have a dating site for book nerds. Do they have that already? If not, they totally should... I mean, they have dating sites for literally everything else so why not book nerds & readers, right?)

No, seriously, though - I’m super excited to get to know you all & read together! The challenges here are AWESOME, so of course, I’ve already jumped right in.

My name is Frankie & I’m a [challenge] addict. & I’m gonna stop babbling now. :p

message 1848: by [[ Frankie ]] (new)

[[ Frankie ]] & if you can’t tell - I seem to love parentheses. LOL. At least in that post I did. ;]]

message 1849: by Dee (new)

Dee Hey Frankie!! We’re glad you’re here!! I’m a talker, too!! I live on goodreads when I’m not reading. I tell people all the time, it’s my social media!! We have heaps of challenges (the funny thing is, it started as only one challenge a month). You’re just in time for all the September stuff to come out and then........HALLOWEEN!!

I’m a cover whore, too. I bought a whole gargoyle series (cover).....lol. Read the first one, ewwwww, she is doing it with an actual gargoyle.

Sing out if you need any help, I’m almost always around sticking my nose into everything!!

message 1850: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda Yup, I can tell who are the talkers. Lots of paragraphs!

Welcome, Frankie!
