message 62: by Duncan (new)

Duncan Howard Hi, My name is Duncan Howard.
A big fan of all things paranormal. I especially like the idea of why humanity created such a wide variety of strange, terrifying and wonderful creatures.... Is it a case of the chicken and the egg? Why do were-creature stories span the globe from tribes in Brasil to Ancient Greece?
And Zombies... don't get me started... I never travel anywhere without my machete!

message 77: by Gina (new)

Gina Wynn Hello,

I'm Gina. I've been lurking in and out of this group for a little while - finding the time to do much more than lurk has been tricky as my husband has started working away a lot, and I'm mostly a child wrangler for my three peeps. That said, the youngest starts school in the mornings in September, so I'll have a whole two and a half hours to myself each day. :-) I've always loved reading and I'm trying to beat that same passion into my children. My little boy loves books, but tends towards non-fiction, although he knows so much general knowledge, now, I have to check what he tells me on Google. :-D

I love, love, love paranormal fiction, and would love to have the skill to write it. As it is, I have a couple of contemporary romance books with Decadent Publishing and another just under contract with them for re release. Writing in the contemporary world is hard enough, without building a new one with rules and expected tropes to where to or twist. I admire those who do it well. :-)

I've got some fantastic paranormal books on my to read shelf, but am always looking out for recommendations. :-)

message 78: by Namita (new)

Namita Hi Gina,

Welcome to our group. Hope you have fun with us!

message 79: by Dee (new)

Dee Hey Gina!! I love it when lurkers come out of hiding. We're glad you are here. We have recommendations.....no worries. Congrats on the re-release of your books. I remember well when my youngest started school. I had such high hopes. I'd be lucky to have the dishes done and half a book read and it was over!! I have been blessed with children that read. Not as much as me, but they do read. I also have one geek grandson....you will find him on the playground with a book in his hands. I do have other grandkids that read just not as much as Nate.

Have a look around, we have lots of new stuff!!

message 80: by Joey (new)

Joey Hi I,m joey
Looking for a place to talk about books, the stories and how cleaver authors build a story. Looking for a group just like the Jane Austin Book Club. My favorite author is JRWard, BDB being in my opinion the best vampire series written. I live in Atlanta with my husband and work in IT. No kids but have virtual kids through our best friends. No pups at this time since my beloved cocker spaniel crossed the rainbow bridge recently. Hobbies besides reading is cycling, running (yes, I'm one of those who love running even though it might not show on my face when I'm doing it) and baking. Love to bake lol. look forward to this group and book descussions. Cheers.

message 81: by Dee (new)

Dee Hey Joey!! Welcome!! We talk about books and lots of other things. Sorry to hear about your dog! It's so sad to lose someone close to you. Running, you go girl!! I wouldn't be able to run even if zombies were chasing me. I love to bake, also. You can share your recipes in the O Positive Cafe. We have lots of recommendation threads feel free to join right in. I still need to read the last 2 books on the BDB series...it's on my list!!

message 82: by Penni (new)

Penni Welcome Joey!

message 83: by JT72 (new)

JT72 Hi everyone, my name is JT and I'm a PNR addict. My childhood consisted of Stephen King and Dean Koontz and V.C. Andrew's. I then moved on to Anne Rice which were my gateway books to my PNR addiction. I then took a hiatus from reading because I just couldn't find the time or anything I really wanted to read. Unbeknownst to me PNR was being written and loved around the world. Then True Blood came out and I was instantly addicted and I had to read the books. Once that series concluded I was hooked into reading again but didn't know what to read. So I did a search on Google for authors similar to Charlene Harris and found J.R. Ward and BDB and a whole world of authors and series that was around for many years. I feel in love with BDB and needed more and that was 2 years ago. I have since read, Frost's night huntress and Dark Prince series, Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, Gena Showalter Lords if the underworld and angel series, and just finished Kresley Cole's IAD. now I'm searching for my next series. I'm thinking about Lara Adrian's midnight breed series. so that's my intro and history into this world.

message 84: by Dee (new)

Dee Hey JT!! Welcome to the group!! My childhood was True Romance Magazines!! LOL. We have lots of recommendations, have a look around, if you don't find what you are looking for, just ask. I'm sure any of us will be happy to add to your pile of books. We have a book boyfriend thread, here. Grab them while you can.

message 85: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Stevens Hi. My name is Lynda and I once taught a 10-week course on The Vampire in Literature for Warwick University when I was still living in the UK. I now live and work in Buda-Pesht, as Harker called it

message 86: by Penni (new)

Penni Welcome Lynda! Nice to have you here.

JT - glad to have you! Enjoying seeing you "around".

I started with Fantasy and Science Fiction - I now do a lot of UF and PNR and some CR/HR/RS

So many good series still to be had. Not enough time to get to them. all.

Jean (Hack the Planet) Hello all.
I am Jean - it is only recently (relatively) that I have found this world of PNR. Which is kind of ironic because I have always liked vamps. ("Lost Boys" anyone?) I didn't read much as a kid or teen. But once I found something I could really get into, I really got into it. ~and here we are.

I like a lot of action in stories and when I read, I read to remove myself from reality, which is why I think the world of PNR has hit home with me.

I have read J.R. Ward, Laura Adrian, Tina Folsom, Lynsay Sands and many others. I am hoping to make some new friends with a love for all things vamp and PNR.

message 89: by Namita (new)

Namita I'm late with the welcome wagon...

I'm similar to you.I didn't really get into reading until I was a teenager and discovered vampire books in our school library (I think it was the Vampire Diaries) and then Stephen King and Harry Potter really got me into reading!

Have you read anything by Karen Chance? Her books are full of action.

Hello to all the other new people too :) Look forward to chatting!

message 92: by Penni (new)

Penni Welcome NirahStar! So glad you have come out of lurking.

Look forward to chatting with you.

message 93: by Dee (new)

Dee Hi all!! I'm at an author thing in Cincinnati right now so I don't have time for my long winded welcomes....so, welcome everyone!!

message 94: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Sage Hey, I'm Priscilla.... some call me Pris. I love all books of every kind. I am a compulsive reader and buyer. My library is extensive and I would invite you in but there's no room at the moment due to the amount of books in it. I am a person of a curious heart with an extreme desire to know. Thanks for having me.
Shade and Sweet Water

message 95: by Dee (last edited Oct 22, 2016 04:11PM) (new)

Dee Hey Pris!! I love your profile picture!!! You could invite me into your library, I'd just get lost in a book, I'll be fine!!

Welcome to the group!! We have a lot of stuff going on *grumbles, mostly games*, have a look around, join in the threads, and claim your book boyfriends. ( *whipers lightly*, we have a few boyfriend hoarders around here.)

message 96: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Sage I've got lots of books. At some point I'm going to go through them so I might be willing to sell the ones I don't want to keep. I've got so many and I continue to buy. I've also got a tablet but I've already overloaded it.... What am I to do? I will look into the boyfriend thing and try to pick a few if I can.

message 97: by Dee (new)

Dee We all have too many books, Pris. Except Lee, we're trying to help her....lol. I have 8 bookcases up stairs and one monster one downstairs. I also have 1,700 books on my kindle.

message 98: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Sage I know but when you are starting to set books on top of your bookcases and there are books stacked in front of them also there is clearly an issue. And that's even with having other bookcases. I plan to go though them next month. I have all kinds of books.

message 99: by Namita (new)

Namita Welcome Pris!! Have a look around. There are lots of things to do here!! Have fun!!

message 100: by Petra (new)

Petra Hi all

My name is Petra.
I'm here in the group now for a few months.
And although I read English books it is not the same when I have to write English, so that's why I haven't introduced myself

I was fantasy addicted. But since I've read the True Blood books I'm totally addicted to vampire books.

Problem (for me) in the Netherlands is they start translate an book and after a few books they stop with the translation.
So I had to start to read english books and now there is so much to read I have no idea what to read, and especially since I became a member of this group :)
