Welcome To Making Connections - Introduce Yourself > Likes and Comments

Thank you, Tana. And welcome everyone to the group! :)

Well, thanks for the hearty welcome! I appreciate it greatly. Sheri, I noticed your moniker: book ninja. I found that really funny when I saw it because, whenever I write a letter to a bookstore trying to get them to take my book on consignment, I always introduce my editor, Alissa, as my "book ninja." Hence why I found your moniker cute.
I'm really looking forward to some healthy rapport coming from Goodreads over the next little while. I'm really committed to trying to be better at my social media crap, and I think Goodreads is where I would like to concentrate most of my efforts. I'm sorry, but I just don't see much value in sending out messages that are only 140 characters in length. I mean, how the heck do you convince someone that your book is the next best thing to sliced bread when you've only got 140 characters to use? I mean, really! Okay, so I'm showing my age here (I just turned fifty-years old in December if you must know). And my Facebook fanpage for my novel? What a joke. Sure, I do everything I can to get interesting stuff up there and still, out of the measly 48 followers I've got, about 42 of them are family and friends. Heck, they are expected to purchase the book anyway, even if they aren't on the Facebook FindingMaxTrilogy fanpage, so what do I need them as followers for, right? Yeah, if I were to spend more time on Twitter and Facebook then I'd probably have bigger followings, right? Right. But I'm sure you know how other responsibilities get in the way -- an ill wife, 2 huge dogs, a very large yard that needs to be looked after, a vehicle that is always breaking down, okay you get it. Who has time to spend the evening being a Twit? Usually, though, I have a lot more time. This last year and a half, though, ever since 2 Jan 2017, I have been working like a crazy man. That's the date we (my editor and I) began working on the edits of Finding Max. We finished the edit job at 2:00 a.m. on 6 December 17. I remember because it was the very last email that was sent between us regarding an edit and it was the last one. And it also happening in the early hours of my birthday. Anyway, as soon as we finished editing we jumped right into marketing that very same day and haven't stopped since then. I took a day off last weekend and my wife and I realized it was the first day off I had taken since 2 Jan 2017. Wow. Whoever said that writers didn't work hard was nuts.
Gawd -- I'm sorry, but I've gone on and on. I guess I'd better look for the place that you all have discussions rather than writing so much in the welcome spot. But this was just supposed to be a THANK YOU to those who had welcomed me to the site.
I'm way too verbose. You'll learn that about me. But I wish you all the best and I look forward to getting to know some of you better! Best, Darren M. Jorgensen

Thanks everyone, Lorna

Darren are you talking about interview in this group in one of our posts or did you see something on goodreads

And hello Darren, Lorna, and Jane.
And can I say, Jane, that you are already a hero to me? I wish I had the means to self publish at sixteen! Good for you!
Have you added your books to Goodreads and yourself as an author already?

I am a self-publishing author. I'm currently writing a six book YA Urban Fantasy series with my friend and co-writer, M.C. Aquila, the first book of which will be released in May. Also might have a vampire seires in the works. My favorite genre is Fantasy. I also really enjoy classic Gothic lit.

Yes Jane, well done you. You might like Debris since its YA, what are your books? Lorna

My name is Kelsey Schulz and I am super excited to join the group! I am 24 and live in Godfrey, Illinois.
I am an avid read of really anything. My favorite genres are probably YA, fantasy and romance. But I literally read anything as well as review everything I read.
I am also a self-published author of two books. One is of the fantasy genre, called Witchhunter: The Realm of the Isles, the first of a trilogy; and the other is a contemporary romance, called When Fate Steps In
I am married and have a dog and a cat. I spend most of my time reading/writing/reviewing, but in my down time, I play Sims (a lot) and crochet or watch movies and spend time with my family.
I look forward to connecting with all of you!

My name is Laura, and, I'm a huge lover of books. I have my own blog, and, am currently in the middle of creating this large website/database for authors, books, and, reading in general. I market, read and review, beta read, and, have recently expanded into the world of helping authors as a VA (Virtual Assistant).
I am so happy to have come across this group, which I joined simply from reading just a part of the description, as it sounded so good! Glad to have come across a place for like-minded individuals.
Look forward to talking about books, gush about characters, fangirl, at times, and, discuss all-things books, blogs, websites, as well as the entire world of reading! Happy reading, Laura :)

Ohhh...what do VA's do for authors? Great question! As we all know that many, if not all, authors wear multiple hats, in that they create, write, market, publish, everything that's involved with publishing a book, and...very often while raising a family, as well as, having a full-time job. VA's help authors with whatever they need help with. Whether it be a simple task like creating, maintaining social media, creating a newsletter, a website, working with their street team, reviews, giveaways, etc.. anything to help the author(s) be able to publish his or her book(s). They often work with multiple authors, for long or short time periods, with varying and very manageable fees.
Here is a great link which explains VA's: https://www.thecreativepenn.com/2015/...
Hope this answered your question! Laura :)

I'm Ed Dreyfus from LA. I began writing novels at age 75 based on experiences I've had in practice as a clinical psychologist for 50 years. I am now 80 and have published six novels so far with number 7 in the works. I suspect I am one of the oldest in this group; I joined because I love being around younger folks, hearing their thoughts, keeping current, and, in general, keeping young in the process.
