I hadn't planned on reading anything else from her after reading Pretty Girls... it was just too much! I know you wrote a similar review after reading it so I'll just ask you, is this anything like that? It sounds good from what you've said and the blurb I just read.

no, i wouldn't say it is like pretty girls at all. that one was really graphic and this one is not. most of the violence takes place 'off stage' and though there are descriptions of what is done to the victims it just doesn't have the visceral effect that pretty girls has.
and most of the story is told from the MC's pov, who is a middle-aged southern woman cop and daughter of the chief of police. and she's a very sympathetic character. i do think it's one of slaughter's best and in this one it seems she's toned down the heavy very detailed graphic narrative type stuff. maybe she is moving into a new stage as an author?
