Em Wilson Wow. That comment was not formed of any kind of substance, Izabella. You sounded like a fourth grader who was just told her Lisa Frank notebook is stupid and starts pouting in the corner.

Emily, this reply? Yeah. You're awesome. Too hilarious!

message 153: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I love twilight soo much how can you hate it !!!
I love Edward and bella and Jacob and the rest of the crew xxx

Clare Richardson A couple of replies have pointed out my casual use of the term "bipolar," which was completely thoughtless thing for me to do. Thanks for speaking up and checking me! It's truly appreciated. I took the term out of the review. (It's awkward that things you wrote four years ago can make you cringe with your own insensitivity. Yikes.)

message 155: by Ailish (new)

Ailish I absolutely agree with this review! I feel the exact same way!! I forced muself through the first two books and just gave up on the thord as i hated them soo much!!

message 156: by Lucifel (last edited Sep 23, 2012 07:57AM) (new)

Lucifel Lolzz wait till you get to the last book... the sole reason i finished this series was because by the second book i had already invested too much time into it... BIG MISTAKE !!! In the last book you will be tearing your hair out in frustration, that book builds to a climax of a calamitic war, then NOTHING HAPPENS !!! Everybody gets up and goes home. o_O

message 157: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Wow, that's super harsh, it's ok not to like a book, but to tear it up because it's not realistic in terms of plot or character according to you? It is a teen novel, AND it's a fiction, your hatred is so vast I couldn't even finish your review :( that's the beaty of books though right? They apply to the demographic, teens do lots of stupid reckless things, particularly in love, and though not realistic, it is metaphorically relatable.

message 158: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Jaye Love it!!!

message 159: by Fangirl Musings (new)

Fangirl Musings *Head bangs nearest brick wall.* Am I the only one irritated when people pull that "hey, that's meaaaan! You shouldn't sayyyyyy that, you meany-head!" card?

Criticism is never done with kid gloves, because as a consumer, we're supposed to be as harsh as we so desire. We, like Meyer, invested our time, and (unlike Meyer), our money into a form of entertainment that, to our mindset, sucked monkey balls. When time and money are wasted, anger sparks, ALWAYS. The quality produced falls to the creator, and when that lands in the proverbial toilet, anger's gonna come. If the author experiences "horrible" feelings over that fact, then that's just part and parcel of being a writer.

You take the good with the bad in the world of creativity, and if a writer is so thinned skinned as to allow negative feedback and harsh reviews from complete strangers detrimentally affect her? Then obviously, she needs to pick another career.

message 160: by Fangirl Musings (new)

Fangirl Musings I didn't say she did not invest time, in fact, if you reread my reply, it's clear I said just the opposite. While she invested time, Meyer did not, however, invest her money into the writing of said books. That's not how the writing process works. As a consumer, however, -I- invested money. Therefore, -I- am more than justified to be as happy, or as angry, over the books' quality as I see fit.

message 161: by Charlie (new)

Charlie I read Twilight a few years a go and back then i thought it was one of those Best books ever, but now looking back on the book I can see why some people dislike the series. I generally don't hate Twilight but I don't love it like I used to . Overall Twilight is a Ok 3-star kind of book but there are better books out there so don't waste your time.
I don't really agree with this review but i don't disagree with it either.

message 162: by Izzy (new)

Izzy Santos Love your review! And agree with every word, my sister is totally obsessed with this series and goes insane whenever I try to explain why I can't read the rest and why I think it's a horrible book.... I think it's sad when I hear people , like my sister, say "oh my, it's sook well written the characters are so amazing" smh I found the characters very superficial, hardly any depth or personality ... And if I read one more time about how "beautiful" Edward was I'd go insane .... Again amazing review

message 163: by Lesley (new)

Lesley Terrazas I disagree with your review because i liked this book, & if i had daughters i would recommend this book to them because it's very capturing and entertaining with all the descriptions of the scenes. I would definitely encourage people to read this book.

message 164: by Selena (new)

Selena Couldn't have said it better myself. Well done there.

message 165: by Paige (new)

Paige I'm not complaining about this review but one thing why on earth would you keep reading a book series if you know ur gonna hate it. That's just fucking ass stupid. If you hate it fine but don't read the other books if your gonna hate it your just wasting ur time......

message 166: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with you in every way. I found the characters, the writing style, the whole story in itself stupid and absolutely broing. I had to push myself to read the first one, and I finally had to quit midway through the second. I couldn't take it anymore/

message 167: by Somerandom (new)

Somerandom I have to agree. The cliches, the writing style, the imagery and purple prose. I'm not a fan. But it does entertain people, so I give it that. I don't hate it, because it got kids into reading. Sometimes you need a silly little romance, vapid shallow novel so you can shut your brain off and be amused. Lord knows, I read some crap as a teenager.

message 168: by Angelique (new)

Angelique i never really got how blood drinking creatures could be inlove with regular people

message 169: by Amber (new)

Amber Don't suffer the books if you need to know watch the films! Kristen Stewart's acting is dire but you know if you want the endings it's only 2 hours torture max.

message 170: by Abigail (new)

Abigail This is quite a respectable (and hilarious) review. I'm sorry about...some of these comments. To those who did post those,
..You should probably learn the concept of grammar...And the reasons she liked it are so OBVIOUSLY stated, I find it so shocking you're too oblivious and stubborn to respect one's opinion.

Anyways, great review. ^_^

message 171: by Hollynn (new)

Hollynn I think I'm going to worship you now. And it's true, all Bella can think about is how pretty Edward is. And the funny thing? Their "relationship" shows all of the signs of an abusive one. And I was looking over at my cat while I read the book, right after a huge paragraph about Edward being a pretty little princess.

message 172: by Somerandom (last edited Nov 18, 2012 04:50AM) (new)

Somerandom To the person who wrote why no one is giving Shakespeare a hard time over Romeo and Juliette.
Well, the man knew a hell of a lot about the craft. Not only is it beautifully written, you can still find his influence in our modern day language. That's one hell of an achievement to say the least.

While R&J is my least favorite Shakespeare work, I can appreciate why it is a classic.

There is, after all, more than one interpretation of R&J. One is the love story, but I find that too simplistic. Another is a tragic satire, poking fun at teenagers' crazy emotions and their over dramatic nature and a dire warning of love at first sight syndrome and blind hate.
There's a hell of a lot more layers, complexity, poise and grace found in even the worst written Shakespearean texts, than in Twilight at it's best! Just saying.

Clare Richardson iloveConnorStoll wrote: "I agree with Victoria. You must think you're so cool and all. Like, "I'm not a loser 'cause I hate Twilight!" And what you said was so stereotypical. Not all teenage girls read it because they want..."

Man oh man. :) As reviews go, this one is old. Really, really old. Old as balls. It was written when I thought "Twilight" was a Utah and Mormon-centric thing, before it really seemed to hit its stride. For a long time, I felt like I was the one missing something because folks around me loved it. It actually kills me that this thing is still getting comments this long after I wrote it.

I don't think writing a bad review of a book makes me "cool" at all. Could I do better? I don't know. I'm an editor and a writer by profession, and I honestly like to hope so. :) Thanks for your comment.

If you'd finished or properly read the review (I'm not sure which is at fault), you'd see I never bothered. Couldn't be arsed.

Whenever someone writes a bad review about a book, fans of it will be pissed.

Haha! I am really not too fussed, I promise. Sometimes I get in the mood to answer comments and other times I kind of forget this review exists (I know, that's terrible). I dearly love the trope of "well, could YOU do any better?!" because I honestly believe I could have. Me and a goodly portion of the world. :)

message 179: by Anneka (new)

Anneka This is three years late, but whatevs.

I'm not very far into Twilight, but thus far I do agree, and it's one of the worst books I've read. Edward and Bella are almost laughably terrible, just like Meyer's style of writing. Bella contradicts herself all the time, and I wasn't fond of Edward's stalkerish qualities. I'm guessing that my opinion won't change by the time I'm done.

Anneka, if you're anything like me, your opinion will indeed change...into a flaming ball of infuriation over the fact that quality authors rarely, if ever, receive the level of prosperity the Twilight "saga" entails. Comfort exists in the reality that fads burn hot, but blessedly quickly, LOL.

message 181: by Cmarie6 (new)

Cmarie6 I agree with this review, the one thing you forgot to mention was the selfishness oand stupidity of Bella. Otherwise, right on!

message 182: by Sabrine (new)

Sabrine YES!

message 183: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah Yeah, I tried reading this book, but it was really poorly written. Watched the film and hated it. I think that the books and films represents the blatant stupidity of our society. By the way @ C, 50 Shades of Grey is by far the worst piece of literature, which makes Meyer competent.

Clare Richardson Aliyah wrote: "Yeah, I tried reading this book, but it was really poorly written. Watched the film and hated it. I think that the books and films represents the blatant stupidity of our society. By the way @ C, ..."

Oh god no. There is no way I would touch 50 Shades of Grey. Not with Hitler's dick lashed to a ten-foot pole would I touch it.

message 185: by Aliyah (last edited Nov 30, 2012 06:40AM) (new)

Aliyah its THAT bad, I had the liberty of reading extracts on the net & read some reviews on this site. I'd rather be incarcerated than buy 50 shades book/e-book.

Good for you.

Sex in literature: can either make or break a book, in 50Sof G, its like bad pornos

Vampires/werewolves in literature: was a good concept, but Meyer clearly fucked it up. Other culprits include: Charlaine Harris and LJ Smith. Not to mention copycat novels as well...(e.g. Vamp Academy & Blue Bloods).

These books are like cancer to the minds of young and/or impressionable people out there...

Its called a PERSONAL OPINION. Well, if you like Emo guys who look like druggies and buff guys with no brains. And bitchy girls who have 5 year old tantrums, then its the start of the Apocalypse. I'll spare myself the crap of explaining the plot holes of Twilight.

Hey Sarah! You should probably take it easy, since comments like this can be flagged, and have been. :)

message 190: by Edith (new)

Edith Anne The twilight series made me depressed only because my fiancée and I were going through a separation. I saw what Bella had with Edward and I knew I wouldn't have that with the man I loved. I slowly began falling in love with the books the more I knew that my fiancée and I would never be together again and I just lived love through Bella.

Every time I opened the books, it was another chance to feel a bit of happiness in my otherwise painful life.

I don't care what people say about the books. It doesn't bother me. I have a passion for reading and if a book peaks my interest, I'll read it and if not, I'll close it up and move on to the next. I don't take books seriously unless I get them from the non-fiction section.

Have a great day everyone and keep reading.

Hey Edith! I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles, and I'm glad you found a book that helped you feel better. I mean that truly. I hope things have gotten better for you.

I also want to say something just because it's turned up frequently in these comments: I am often a little bewildered by the "I don't take books seriously" attitude. For me, it's important to take storytelling and its effects seriously. Maybe it's because I've chosen that as a career and I am interested in pulling stories apart and examining their elements, but I think it's important not to brush off anyone who takes books "too seriously." Storytelling is such a vital, brilliant part of our tradition and evolution as humans that it feels like willful ignorance not to acknowledge and respect their effects on us, whether "true" or "made-up." :)

message 192: by Jhenefer (new)

Jhenefer Lennon I think u guys suck a lot I love that book!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 193: by Erica (new)

Erica Halby I got 3/4 through the first book and threw it out the window. I absolutely despise the Twilight Saga. Forgive me for saying so, but those who are fans of Twilight, Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, etc, are (part of) what's wrong with society.

Well, even though Twilight is not my cup of tea, I don't think the fans are to blame for society's mess. Maybe the twihards. *shudders* They make me feel sorry for actual reasonable fans.
The other people, yeah, that's fair enough.

message 199: by Della (new)

Della I agree with what you wrote, thanks heaven I'm not the only one who dislike Bella and Edward, I feel like both of them are immature. I only read half of the books then decided to stop it since I can't bring myself to finish this book. I love the stories with vampires, etc but I guess this one is not my cup of tea.
