I just finished, and I can absolutely say, this is one of the best books I've ever read! Another splendid review from you pointing in the direction of a great novel! Thank you, Kevin. :-)

Aww, I’m so pleased, Kimber! The novel is a long slog, but a worthwhile one. Characters exquisitely observed and their interaction meticulously orchestrated.

Well, I'm late on the scene and 'fascinating' is quite taken so -- great review, Kevin! Really great!
Love this wonderful and amusing review, great assessment!
You've aptly pointed out Tolstoy's use of repetition to emphasize a point. And yes, the title is a bit of misnomer, it could've been 'Konstantin Dmitrich Levin' instead of 'Anna Karenina'!
Agree with whole of your review. : )

Ann, my apologies for only just noticing your kind comment. Thank you so much!

You are too kind, Asma. Your review was superb!
Kevin, when you have reading time I encourage you (passionately!) to read Nabokov's Lectures on Russian Literature (and the other, Lectures on Literature too, in time). The one on Anna Karenina is my favorite of all; he was an amazingly deep reader. Nab's take on it will surely make you see new beauty and craft in it and love it all the more :)
Reading your review just reminded me of one of my close friends who absolutely loves this book...it's her FAVOURITE and she has been trying to convince me to read this book for a long time!

Lori, it's lovely to see you goodreadsing again! : )
Your passionate endorsement of Nabokov's lectures is duly noted, and I will find the time once my novel is done and dusted. My brain is already too overloaded with words. : (

Beautiful Review!
Brought back that first time experience of reading this russian god of Literature.

Thank you, Adan. I appreciate you saying so!
Tolstoy certainly was a literary god.
Kevin, thank you so much for convincing me that I had to read this one, if it hadn't been for your lovely review haunting me I never would have read this, the length alone was so daunting. I kept trying to find a period of time where I was pretty sure I could commit to this, and once I began reading this I was hooked.
A few days ago my college aged son mentioned that he likes to read books and talk about books, but that his pleasure ends when he is forced into doing both steps, followed by writing papers. I think he nailed it -- as you did in your review. All of us should revisit the books we were forced to read earlier in life in order to experience them for pleasure. Great review.

So sorry for my late reply, Cheri - notifications being rather indiscriminate these days.
I'm so pleased that you were hooked. It's a timeless classic.

Thank you, Elaine.
I totally agree! And it's reassuring to know that your son likes to read and talk about books.
Another excellent review, Kevin!
Your reviews are like art! I could read them many times over and still want to read them back!
This paragraph is SO wonderful--->
"Anna herself is fascinating, and to affirm just how fascinating she is, Tolstoy employs the word fascinating seven times in one paragraph! Look! I've even started doing it myself! How fascinating!"

Great review, Kevin! I'm glad you're a fan of this book even though I am not haha. I think I felt particularly bitter towards it after having trudged through so many pages. But it's always fun to see a much-loved classic find its way to the right reader's hands. :)

Thank you, Yun! And I loved your honest review.
For me, this was a most enjoyable trudge. : )
I love your review SO much! Especially the bit on Levin (he's my favourite, bumbling, good-natured, introspective Levin). And yes, your review is what finally made me start reading Anna Karenina. And boy, what a journey it has been.

Currently reading this now with a friend. We read a chapter a day. I may be the only one, but I'm ready to punch Anna in the face.
I love your beginning quote Kevin. And then I love your humor. And there is so much here within this review that sounds like you are seeing things that I also questioned, as well. But this is the love of this story. Tolstoy makes us think. And that I believe is what makes this book a true classic. Stellar review by the way! Thank you! ☺️
