I'm a writer, Egyptologist, mom (2 kids and 2 spoiled Frenchies), friend, avid reader and dedicated coffee drinker.

The thing I'm most excited about at the moment is sharing ISIS OF EGYPT with readers. I waited years for someone to write a solid retelling of the Isis mythology, and finally buckled down to write it myself. I loved exploring her relationships, losses, and successes. Above all, I hope readers will be inspired by her persistence and walk away hopefully that we can all stand up to chaos and make a difference.

How do you get inspired to write?

I often f…moreI don't struggle to find inspiration, or ideas, or words to put on paper. I do struggle to find time to write without too many distractions. I often fall to sleep thinking about my characters. Sometimes I dream about them and wake up ready to drop whatever is in my way that day to write, write, write. But the truth is, editing is my challenge--I'm not always up for that so I have to dig deep. My best trick is to dog walk when I can't get in the zone. A little time with the pup and I'm usually able to focus on the fixing...and man do those first drafts need a lot of fixing!(less)

Finally…moreNeferura is the daughter of Egypt's most renowned female pharaoh. With a mother like Hatshepsut, I've long wondered what Neferura's story was. Finally, I decided to tell my version of her story. I can't say where the idea to write about Neferura came from--even for one planning to write about an ancient Egyptian woman, she's not an obvious choice. But she was surrounded by historical actors who left a mark, yet she's quite invisible. It made me curious, so I've imagined a version of her life that I hope readers will enjoy ... as they, hopefully, learn a bit about the ancient culture I'm so passionate about. (less)
