Linda Cull is the author of Where The Light Lives and When Eve Walked. She is a visionary artist. Her blog Spirit my way covers spirituality, inspired creativity, and transformative experiences.

Linda was born in Australia and into a traditional Southern European culture traumatised by war. At fourteen she was diagnosed with a disfiguring spinal condition. From age sixteen she experienced many spiritually transformative experiences that healed her life.

She happily resides with her family and three funny bunnies in Perth.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

The…moreI didn't really have an issue with writer's block with my book Where The Light Lives, as it is a story about my life, and my personal experiences. The story was already there. The task was working out how best to tell the story that was already there, and what meaning I would give to my experiences.

I would suggest however that it is important to write regularly; to set time daily or weekly to write. Then quite naturally a flow begins - the creativity rolls. It is always hardest getting started, and then harder still when you have the flow and it is midnight and you know you really should get to bed, or you're not going to be anyone's best friend in the morning.

If you have writer's block, write about how you're feeling, what's going on in your life, anything, just to get the words moving. If it is a major full-stop in your writing, go do something else entirely. Perhaps you need a break from writing. Go for a walk. Get out of the house or office. Go visit a friend, or go for a holiday. Do something that brings you relaxation and happiness, and perspective, and spontaneously the sentences may start forming in your mind when you're driving, or in the shower - which is often the case!

Go to a cafe or the beach, or any place that has people and bustling life, and immerse yourself in the scene. Or be in nature where it is quiet and contemplative. Whatever suits you. Write about what you are sensing, even if its just a summary, dot points or take a photo, so you can recall the details of the setting. You may use these to prompt you later, when you sit down to write.

See if you can literally place yourself into the scene of your book that you may be writing about. If it is set in the mountains, by a river, in a bustling city, in a majestic home... seek out that place. Go and visit it and observe the details of the scene, in real time, which may be great information for your book, or get out a film about it, and see if it stimulates your imagination.

Always carry a notebook around with you, even if its just scrap paper, to jot down any ideas when they appear - even the small ones. The small ones can become the big ones later. Remember, write for yourself first. Let your guard down. Don't strive for perfection in your writing, whatever that is, simply be authentic. Everything else about writing can be re-worked or sorted out later. For now, just be you and write.(less)

You amaze yourself regularly with the depths of your feelings and self-expression. You seek to give of yourself, and to be bonded to others - even strangers - especially strangers, who may appreciate your words, and see something of themselves in your words. It really is a way of living without boundaries, if you can lose yourself in it. Then there is the spiritual aspect of writing, the deep communion with your spirit that comes from solace and contemplation, and listening to the voice from within.(less)
