I'm a new writer, currently living in Manchester, England but with my roots in Portsmouth and the West Midlands. I've enjoyed writing stories and conjuring up characters since I was small but I've only recently built up the courage to actually finish one and share it with the world. I will say though that I get a lot of good ideas just by zoning out a bit from the real world and having a good daydream or even a chat with yourself! I imagine a conversation I've had with a friend and build on it or a situation I've been in or something I'd like to happen and flesh out the details naturally in my own mind. That tends to snowball into lots of characters or scenes that you can build a story around. Nothing creative ever came from trying too hard! Relax, have a cup of tea and have a good chat with your own brain!(less)
