I am Donna Mae Smith, born Donna Mae Grigelis. I am a waterman’s daughter who grew up on the Mobjack Bay in Virginia. I had a great childhood being barefoot and carried a bamboo-fishing pole.

My father had followed his Uncle Corbett to Virginia’s grand James River oyster beds. Daddy learned and worked hard in the rivers while Mom took care of the home front and the budget. It was a great decision, for we prospered.

Some 20+ years ago, I returned to Virginia and the country road on which we lived. I have since sold real estate locally while enjoying my grown daughter and much of my family close by.

Most of the time, I just sit down at my computer and slowly and co…moreI am dealing with writer's block right now by sharing the current problem with you. Most of the time, I just sit down at my computer and slowly and consistently, the problem resolves itself. My father taught me to simply do. Just do. One of my sayings, for many years now, is "It's all in the doing."

However, I believe I am currently blocking because my fiction story is based on a true matter close to my heart, my passed away step-dad, Pop, and his cat. Every fictional chapter I outline, I see the possibility of him living the same chapter.

Progress is slow; however, I know that showing up is half of the battle. It will come. Thanks for reading.(less)
