Katharine Noble I liked that this was told from Eliza's point of view in that she did have moments of revelation, discovering her ignorance... like the idea that if she took Sarah from the guy who was raping her, a whole bunch of dominoes would fall. I think this book did as good a job as possible as telling about plantation life from a white perspective as is possible... there's no way to really tell such a story in a positive way with a positive protagonist, and this author handled it as well as possible. In short, I agree with you... this was one perspective. For the perspective of the enslaved, those books are far more difficult to read (like The Prophets... that was stunning and gorgeous with very little joyful about it). Maybe as readers, it's incumbent on us to vary our readings.
