Definitely an homage, not a rip-off. I answered the original question here with a lengthier explanation, but though the story is similar (unreliable female protagonist, nanny, spooky stuff, mystery, maybe ghosts, maybe not), the setting is very different and it's a very modern take on the genre. I am finding it a very enjoyable read so far (about halfway through) :)
