Same! It felt very rushed, not thought out and thrown together. Also, my least favorite part of the book. I hate it when authors do that. She spends so much time meticulously going through the case to just end it and then she marry’s Tate, no kids and dies. Wah wah.
Re: comment 3, she never went to school but Tate taught her to read. Then she read and studied enough on her own to be able to write several books about nature by the time of the murder (although some may consider this as less than realistic). But she's not illiterate.
Totally wondered about your second point. WHY on earth would Chase meet her at the top of the tower after what happened with them?
Anthony and Vee: Because Chase was an arrogant prick, of the kind that my womenfolk (who were born when Kya's parents and grandparents would've been) said though himself "God's gift to women". That sort are utterly blind to what really motivates their targets.
Improbable that she could lure him to the tower, unless she arranged to meet him there. She said in the poem "with valentines" ~ I think that meant she likely told him she wanted to be with him, sorry for kicking him, wanting to make it "right" and of course he would show up.
But what if, the bus was even later, and what if...
