In my head (Scary place), they asked John to locate him and he decided against it. It just seemed like that community is too small not to have been able to locate him and Erik too important to THE day to not include. I'm sure John would have justified it by thinking it would not be a healthy thing for Daisy, but a little self interest creeps in there too. Or maybe, he didn't want to deal with feeling like he shouldn't have told Erik to stay away. Do you find your readers fixate on odd things?
