We must have read a different book! He mentioned religion several times throughout the book—mostly in a dismissive (or derisive) way.
Yes true religion is mentioned in the context of what they believe.
How else could a book on science deal with religious claims except to dismiss them? That isn't derision, it is just a fact that religions are wrong on their scientific claims. (maybe the're right on the philosophical ones... that's a different argument)
