Tammy Buchli Wow. This is one of my favorite books too. So, so funny and charming as well. I'm also a huge fan of Bird's Alamo House, which is one of the funniest books I've ever read.

Laini YES! Alamo House for the win! I still talk about "El Trampa de la Pampa" from time to time. :D Being from Austin, I'm especially fond of both books. They make me nostalgic for my pre-hipster town. :)

Tammy Buchli I need to reread both of these great books again soon!

Laini Me too! :) Always good for inspiration. I try to add plenty of humor to offset the tragic circumstances many of my subjects found themselves in.

Tammy Buchli You do a great job with that, actually. I feel like it would be pretty hard to write a cheerful book about an overworked, undereducated, sexually exploited girl who married a philandering drug addict and then died of drinking [what is essentially] Drano at the age of 25. And yet, Olive as voiced by you made me smile on almost every page.

Laini Yay! LOL :D
