Thank you, Lana, for responding! Truthfully, I just don't know. I just rationalized that I don't have to know everything to fully enjoy the book. Like Armand Gamache said many times, "I don't know" is one of the four things that Retired Chief Comeau taught him to always remember. "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I need help. I don't know."
