Barth I'd like to agree with your conclusion, but there's an unresolved paradox of how Mull and the totalitarian society come to pass in the 23rd century, if a nuclear holocaust happens in the 20th. I feel like Pears does a lot of handwaving and does an inadequate job of explaining any of the bootstraps paradoxes that ultimately occur in any time-travel fiction.

William Thank you! About the only comment I've read on the internets that seems to have figured out the ending. I definitely noticed the very questionable ethics of strang. I was also unsatisfied by the lack of any closure with Angela- perhaps Oldmanter chose 1962, but not knowing more explicitly why Angela was unable to effect any change when she knew full well what Strang would do feels a bit empty given how far we followed her.
