Santiago Arizti Alternatively, this whole thing could mean that in America they worry more about the reader and about sales, while in the UK they don't sacrifice the integrity of the author's original intention

The Usual It could do. On the other hand I'd be very wary of drawing conclusions based on one or two examples.
It might be that this sort of thing happens occasionally on both sides of the Atlantic - publishers wouldn't be publishers if they didn't want to sell books - or that the whole thing is an outlier.
