My grandpa and my son are both Ove and we pronounce it O-V like you!
I had a great uncle named Ove. His game was pronounced O-V as well. His sister, my grandmother, was named Cova (pronounced Co-V. I always found their names unusual, but thought it was cool that this character had the same name as a family member. Not so unusual after all.
The Swedish pronunciation is more like OOO-veh, with stress on the first syllable. It's a quite common name over here, at least in certain generations of Swedes.
Not my family member but a young kid on our baseball team had this name Ove and to us it sounded like Grape in Spanish 'Huva' (the H being silent)...ooh-vah
I love his books. So far I think I have all of them, except for his latest which I just found out about. I'm part Norwegian and Swedish. Along with Danish, German finnish and Irish.

In Norway, it depends on the dialect you're speaking though, there are many different pronunciations.
