She doesn't say it more clearly than that(hand back of head) does she? Why when she sees him does SHE keep saying "I'm sorry,I'm sorry"? Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.
Victims often apologise to their victimisers, because they often feel irrationally guilty, some times for life.
It did not dawn on me at the time that her fathers hand on her head represented that. But I figured it was something pretty terrible and included sexual abuse.
I think that she's right. But it really didn't bother me not getting the specifics - because the shame, the horror, the guilt of not loving someone you're supposed to, the resentment of someone like a mother whose supposed to protect you - are the story to me. It explains why the mother goes on about others failed marriages. I think some mothers unconsciously weigh: is the child better off with an asshole dad or fatherless -- later, the mother still can't own up - she's still trying to justify her decision.
