A “West With the Night” is one of those books that I look for in every used bookstore, I give copies to friends and claim it as one of my top favorite books ever. So, when I found out that you wrote a book about Beryl Markham, I went to Amazon straight away and ordered my copy…and the first beautiful surprise I found upon the inside cover-page was your autograph. What an unexpected and lovely thing to find.

In the beginning, as I read “Circling the Sun”, there were times I had to remind myself that the words in this book were your words, not Beryl's…but I soon gave in and heard Beryl's voice through and through. It all just enveloped me, much like “West With the Night.” You are truly truly, a gifted writer, Paula. Thank you for this book and all the heart and soul you poured into it. I loved it! In between the words of someone else’s story, especially this story, I see little sparks of my own truth. Across time and space, some things are mysteriously and magically familiar.

I still can’t believe there hasn’t been a contemporary motion picture based on Beryl Markham…I like to think Cate Blanchett could play Beryl’s role incredibly, with Clive Owen as Denys. Anyway, thank you for writing “Circling the Sun.” It was such a treat to read. :)
