Ah--but as the author of the book, Renee, I feel it my obligation to say what I did. I read way up, too, as did two of my three children. But sometimes a child who reads my other (children's) books doesn't understand that I write different things when working in adult books.SO I felt obligated to point that out to Aviva. And really, EXCEPT THE QUEEN begins with a whole section on the sex life of fairies, and has some scenes with two just-out-of-their-teens making love for the first time in the furrows of a sown field, etc. So you see--I wanted to be sure that if Aviva hadn't read the book herself, she needed to have some idea of what was in it.--Jane
I can understand that feeling of obligation. I guess when I hear "my kid loves" something from a parent, I've tended to assume that means they're at least generally aware of what the item is, if monitoring things is important to them. But I can see where that might not always be the case. At any rate, another book of yours to add to my to-read shelf. :)
And when you rad it, you will understand my concern. Aviva didn't say if she had or had not read the book, whether she knew its contents or not. If was comfortable with her child reading the bok, fine. it's not a book I would have given my kids at ten or my grandkids at ten. But fine for teens and higher. At 7 I read the boxed edition of Mann's "Joseph in Egypt" and maybe understood a third of it. But loved it nonetheless. So it's up to the parent and child to make that decision. I was just giving her possible information--which she may have already had.
I agree about it not being for children, but I am so sorry to know Except the Queen did not sell well!
I absolutely loved it!
It's one of the most original Fae themed books I've read!
The problem from he first was that he main characters are two middle age women on an adventure. The cover shows a more minor character because she is a sexy, tattoed girl. Indicative of how the book as positioned and sold.
Yeah, typical "urban fantasy" cover! We read it as a group read in the Into the Forest group https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
and many of us commented on how until Sparrow showed up, the cover seemed so misleading.
We all loved your book Jane, and wrote that we would definitely read more set in the same world!

At any rate, at least they know what their ten-year-old's reading, and presumably they know their child better than we strangers do. :)
