Perhaps she means Judith Merkle Riley?
Aha. I imagine that is the one. Still haven't read her, though.
Every time I read of another woman dying prematurely from one of the several female cancers, I am more in favor of proactive hysterectomies.
Ta, L.
I did. This was the first book of hers I read. My mother is a librarian and kept in on the shelf in her library for me for close to a decade. When she culled it I was allowed to buy it at the book sale. (I've got it in hardcover now.)

Riley, Judith Merkle (says the Library of Congress author file). She taught management and wrote historical novels. I must make like a mongooose and run-and-find-out.
My library has a copy of The Serpent Garden so I've placed it on hold and will see if Ella is right.
I believe Ella got her name slightly wrong.
