Janet Dennison Have just finished reading this book and was feeling all the time that it was metaphorical, so now pleased that I have seen your interpretation and you felt the same. It is, as you say a beautiful read.

Eloquent I agree. It plays with the imagery of the river of forgetfulness and the river Styx of death in Greek mythology. They had to journey in order to come to terms with the death of their son, the death of the wife, and the fact they would be separated by her death.
