I would love that please John. I'm surprised there are no book club discussion questions on the Internet. Thank you
So these are all questions I asked myself during the reading. I really tried to ask them without coloring the answers. I'd be interested if other people came to the same conclusions I did:
- Was Norton Perina a "great man"? What qualifies him to that title? (Add to this: does he deserve his Nobel Prize? )
- What does the "immortality" of the Dreamers, with all of its caveats and conditions, symbolize?
- Compare the fates of Tallent, Evie, and Perina. Why do you think Yanagihara made these decisions? Better yet, why did she reveal them when she did?
- What was your reaction/impression of Perina before his brief redacted confession at the very end? Without that, was he innocent? Why does Perina maintain his innocence all that time?
- What's the literary purpose of that last portion? Does Perina love Vi?
- Why Victor? Aside from character parallels with Dr. Gajdusek, why did Yanagihara wait until Vi to initiate Perina's hubris? Discuss the trial scene? Why Vi?
