Judith Who said this story is set in the 2020's? It was timeless/recent past until that was tacked on at the end.

Kathy There were bush fires in 2019 and into 2020, which could put it around that time. Just saying.

Judith As other comments have suggested, the "bush fire" reference was probably inserted after the fact when the pandemic was added at the end. Also, just sayin'
