Same here. I feel like emphasis on "librarians" vs "paraprofessionals" is way overblown. Yes, I have an MSIS, but my staff member who does not have that degree and works full time as my Children's Librarian is a Librarian. She does all the same duties that I do, she just took a different path to get there. I've seen this distinction matter more in Academic and Special Libraries, but the job blends so much in a public library. Patrons are going to come in and call everyone who works there a librarian. And that's fine with me.
I work as a customer Advisor at my local library. I have asked this question many times to the librarians I work with and others that I have met along the way. I have never once in my 6 years had one say that this bothered them.
Totally agree! My library assistants are often called librarians and they make our profession look great. No problems here.
Thank you all! As a librarian without the degree but with over 15 years experience, I appreciate your positive attitudes and encouraging words of support! 💛💛
