Zephyr This was pretty much my take too. Jasmine definitely could not consent, and it's been a few months since I read that, but I seem to recall the main character sexually assaulting a coworker as well, or at least a situation in which consent was murky at best. All the while feeling like he's on the moral high ground. That last sentence of the book absolutely destroyed me. It was perfect.

Erza I definitely agree with this too! She did NOT consent. Immediately in that very first scene I thought “he raped her??” and that his infatuation was delusion from loneliness but perhaps he had an ulterior motive (birthing a new child) all along and just didn’t want to admit it to himself. His disgust with the world around him was just a projection of himself.
