Also, they never technically say that Jacob is half human half anything. I think that he is FULL human and FULL shapeshifter. If he stops phasing he dies. It's more magic than anything. Even Edward explains it that way.
that's not really how the shapeshifting thing works in that universe. If they got the gene from Jacob then they'd turn into a wolf, seeing as all the other shapeshifters with the same gene can only turn into wolves I don't see from a biological standpoint how that would be possible. You could just say magic but to each their own
