He and the mother seem to work well in tandem; he’s definitely “around”, it’s just it’s almost as if the child doesn’t totally seem to complete the family unit somehow. There are a lot of haphazard meals, it seems, even though the lifestyle is somewhat like homesteading, with homemade maple syrup going on from their own trees (sugaring off) ... I found this a perhaps jarring aspect of their family lives, not sure if that setting was wholly believable because the father *does* share with his daughter his deep love of nature, of dogs... Another way the father is characterized is later, when she shares a work environment with him briefly at the hospital and sees a different side to him, a popular side: Maybe he was compartmentalizing?
Seriously, people need to stop blaming the kid in this scenario. The male character was a predator. He willfully and intentionally PREYED on a CHILD. What is wrong with all of you that you continuously blame the victim here? Strane was a pedophile that abused a small girl, Regardless of Vanessa's upbringing, regardless of her belief that it was consensual, Strane groomed a CHILD to have sex with. How is anyone in this thread trying to justify Strane's behavior by blaming it on Vanessa' upbringing??
