Rick Cook The First Law is curmudgeonly and poorly written. If Leonel liked Elantris he probably isn't going to like The First Law.

Dorothy Agree w/#Rick: Loved the Mistborn, actively disliked the writing in First Law - he even made the prolonged fight scenes boring!

Seth Elder I think that the Mistborn series seems to be a classic tale of good and evil, but it really evolves into a much more complex and morally ambiguous struggle. I think Sanderson does a fantastic job of exploring the ethics of leadership better than almost any other fantasy writer. The good guys do some bad things for good reasons, and the archetypal Voldemort-esque villain is not all that He seems.
