Yes she was. While the book is based on history, they have taken a few liberties. Not many, but some.
I loved it. I have the 1953 copy which was passed on to me by an aunt while I was teenager and have reread it many times since (I'm 60 now). I enjoyed it so much that as a teenager I went to the reference library to find out the facts.!
