Daisy also had a young daughter, Pammy, to consider. While Fitzgerald did not portray her nor Tom as particularly nurturing, parenthood and lineal legacy was a distinction that set them apart from, and you could say above, Gatsby and Nick and, for that matter, all the rest of the characters.

Through Pammy, the future hovered like a shadow wherever they went.

Gatsby's future was ominous and Nick's was unsettled and a bit confused, but Daisy and Tom had Pammy to consider, an angle of the story that was hardly touched on by the author but for Daisy's, "beautiful little fool" comment.
