I agree. I think memoirs and biographies should have their own category, nature and science could be another.

message 352: by Brina (new)

Brina Besides the above of more nonfiction, how about more literary fiction and international books. The list here is pretty run of the mill fiction, and there is no mention of new books by Colum McCann, Yoko Ogawa, or Madeleine Thien. Also Isabel Allende has a new book out and that’s always an event. In nonfiction, sports history is its own category and there are some exciting books coming out there as well.

message 353: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I'm genuinely surprised that Karen Russell's The Antidote is not on this list. Its omission borders on a literary crime. Regardless, I cannot wait for this book to come out.

message 354: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Damoff Thank you to early readers and Goodreads for including The Bright Years alongside so many incredible titles!

message 355: by Claire (new)

Claire Robinson Thanks for these lists! My TBR just got soooo much longer!

KOMET Richard wrote: ""a physics professor determined to be the first woman in space. NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, circa 1984..."

What in the American myopia is this?"

Remember: it's fiction. I was in college when Sally Ride went into space in 1983.

message 357: by Pat (new)

Pat Molloy I like fiction. But I enjoy non-fiction more. How about recommendations in History, biography, essays, etc.

John Tieri Really looking forward to the new Stephen King book!

message 361: by Fi's Journey (new)

Fi's Journey What happened to Middle Grade?!? It seems Middle-Grade is loosing attention as it wasn't mentioned in the Goodreads Choice Awards as well. Perhaps I should leave Goodreads and stay on StoryGaph.

message 362: by Linda (new)

Linda O'Dell Where are the recommendations for faith based authors? Inspirational. Motivational

message 366: by Sonakshi (new)

Sonakshi Gosh I'm a huge picky reader....but Water Moon is now added to my list. As a reader who really enjoyed "Before The Coffee Gets Cold", I can't wait for this to release.

message 367: by Wendy (new)

Wendy It's strange that the new Riley Sager book isn't listed here.

message 368: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary Flower Justine wrote: "Avi wrote: "I have nothing against fiction, but perhaps consider that maybe 8 categories for fiction and just 1 for non-fiction is a bit unbalanced? Thanks."

Agreed!"

I agree, too, and I also favour identifying biography/memoir as a subdivision. OK they're not all brilliantly written but many are a window onto fascinating life stories that, otherwise, we'd have no experience of.

message 369: by Cam (new)

Cam Olivares Ruiz Estoy esperando con ansias Atmosphere!

Maliha Tabassum (back from hiatus) Tisha Thanks to these lists, my tbr has its own postal code now. 😣

message 380: by Sara (new)

Sara Root I am mostly curious about memoirs and books from The Berenstain Bears. Also, I am currently reading part one of Cher's memoirs.

message 381: by P. (new)

P. A. H. Zada need more varied non-fiction categories: philosophy, popular science, history of science, various history categories, political theory, archaeology, anthropology, etc.

message 382: by Joan (new)

Joan An wrote: "Avi wrote: "I have nothing against fiction, but perhaps consider that maybe 8 categories for fiction and just 1 for non-fiction is a bit unbalanced? Thanks."

this ⬆️⬆️"

I have to agree! I tend to read children's fiction and nonfiction. Not a mention of those at all. If you want future readers, maybe you should include these categories! Also, how about Science nonfiction? This is one of my favorite genres and it doesn't get mentioned at all!

Avi wrote: "I have nothing against fiction, but perhaps consider that maybe 8 categories for fiction and just 1 for non-fiction is a bit unbalanced? Thanks."

You're absolutely correct. And since the fiction is skewed toward women, this imbalance tends to repel men from the site.

message 384: by Nikita (new)

Nikita Oathbound LFG!!!!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie There is nothing in 2025 I'm anticipating more than Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle!!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie Andrés wrote: "Written in the Dark by Guy Gavriel Kay"

OMG I didn't know Guy Gavriel Kay had a new release coming this year!!! Thanks for this wonderful news!

message 387: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Guimarães Disappointed by you guys for banish the middle-grades of all the app atmosphere. Every good reader knows that books don’t look for age. Shouldn’t you be the keepers of this commandment?! I love MGs. They are places for peace, clarity and understanding. Where are they?! Fells like Fahrenheit 451…

message 388: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla Guimarães Waiting anxiously for Silverborn from Jessica Townsend, the fourth book of Nevermoor series, just in case.

message 389: by Robert (new)

Robert Rogers I wish they included a category of religious/spiritual books or at least selected some in the fiction and nonfiction categories.. Authors like Max Lucado and Ted Dekker have millions of readers.

message 390: by Hanna (new)

Hanna Boven Jessica wrote: "the ones im looking forward to i have not seen are Faithbreaker by Hanna Kaner, The deadly Grimm by katheryn Purdie, Once a villain by Vanessa Len, The Curse of Gods by Kate Dramis, Daughter of Cha..."

I am so freaking excited for Faithbreaker as well!

message 391: by madi (new)

madi Avi wrote: "I have nothing against fiction, but perhaps consider that maybe 8 categories for fiction and just 1 for non-fiction is a bit unbalanced? Thanks."

I agree, there are categories for some fiction subgenres, whereas nonfiction has no such thing.

I was thinking the same thing as I went through the categories.

message 393: by Dominique (new)

Dominique Sital I didn't know Suzanne Collins was releasing another prequel. I love the Hunger Games series. Just read Songbirds and Snakes last year before watching the movie ❤️

message 394: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I am hoping for some great historical fiction this year, seems to have been missed as a genre

NOOO I want this book so bad now but I haven't finished the series! We want to see poor James and his mind!

message 398: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Hatfield Avi wrote: "I have nothing against fiction, but perhaps consider that maybe 8 categories for fiction and just 1 for non-fiction is a bit unbalanced? Thanks."

Completely agree! Non-fiction is so wide ranging.... History, (auto)biography, science, politics, technology, etc. Not to mention that they add whole additional largers lists for sub-categories of fiction. I like a fictional story occasionally but my favorite books are usually non-fiction.

message 399: by Lucinda (new)

Lucinda Garza Zamarripa Goodreads really should start including more translated fiction, the almost exclusively English-speaking stuff is getting boring and stale. There is so much more out there!

message 400: by Lenore (new)

Lenore I'm only particularly interested in They Bloom At Night. I consider this an absolute victory, however, as I'm hardly ever interested in modern writing... Maybe this will be the start of a new era for me.
