message 201: by Julie (new)

Julie Bestry I read Cal Newport's Slow Productivity, and while it wasn't his best book, it was thought-provoking. I'm currently reading The Age of Magical Overthinking: Notes on Modern Irrationality by Amanda Montell, and it's excellent. I'm surprised by her (relative) youth, as there's incredible maturity in her writing, and the book is well-researched without being academic.

I just got an email from my library that my hold on The Ministry of Time has come in, so it may jump ahead of the other 14 books on my TBR stack! Charles Duhigg's Supercommunicators is also on my list, but it's likely to be a 2025 read at this point.

Khader This site needs to step out of its shell. It is completely unacceptable to limit reading and books to those available in English. This is a global site with readers from all over the world and in all languages. Therefore, Goodreads must ensure that it is a site for everyone and expand its workforce to include diverse voices, rather than being exclusive to one group. Additionally, the site has needed significant updates for years to keep up with the times—there are numerous errors, significant slowdowns, and an outdated interface. A fundamental change is required for this site. Hopefully, this message will reach the right people this time.

Laurence AKA what publishers/Amazon asked Goodreads to promote this year, hence all the american authors.

This is an American site.

message 205: by Zaghol (new)

Zaghol no comic, comic is not considered as a book anymore?

message 206: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Ford Thanks for this list. I have chosen quite a few to be added to my TBR List.

message 207: by Terri (new)

Terri What a bunch of whining crybabies!!

Robin Patterson Alison wrote: "Thanks for this! A lot of great recommendations. I noticed nearly all the books are from authors based in the US. Do you recommend books written by authors from the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand..."
Good spotting, Alison. I noticed one from Australia but none of those others. I guess the list is based on readers' votes and most readers are American. Maybe Goodreads can produce a Europe category next year and a Southern Hemisphere one.

message 209: by Ron (new)

Ron Correia Where are all the Biographies?? I read a number of new ones, and they were fantastic! They seem to be the forgotten category around here! 🥲

message 210: by Ron (new)

Ron Correia Sooo many Fiction on the list- not ENOUGH Non-Fiction! I love reading facts, as opposed to imagination story telling! Show us some equal love here! 😘

message 211: by H (new)

H I agree with Inés very US heavy

message 213: by Louise (new)

Louise Yes I agree about “the women”. Lots liked it but I was disappointed

message 214: by Law (new)

Law Kenna wrote: "Jeanine wrote: "What an amazing list! I throughly enjoyed Kristin Hannah’s The Women."

What age would you say it is appropriate for?"

Adults.

message 215: by Chelle_Rydz (new)

Chelle_Rydz Wow, I guess I’m not that into the really popular books of this year. I have not read any of the ones on this list; though I have read a few 2024 releases. Only 12 on the list are also on my TBR and I didn’t add any more after reading through the list.

message 216: by Iron (new)

Iron Man Why don't you guys add old books or Indian authors? They are interesting, these books by Indian authors good. Goodreads should add their books.

message 217: by BookSinArt (new)

BookSinArt My TRL just got even longer. Thank you! 🩵📖💙

message 218: by Molly (new)

Molly Dave wrote: "Id like to second Alison's comment, this is an extremely one eyed list in terms of authors origins."

Agree! Very homogenous.

The Women was based on such excellent material - women working with grievously wounded soldiers in the MASH hospitals of Vietnam - yet the result was a frothy, silly love story! I wanted historical detail about real nurses' experiences over there, not simpering descriptions of cute outfits and perfect haircuts.

message 220: by Alex (new)

Alex Bekier Can we get some recommendations for books written by women?

message 221: by Marlin (new)

Marlin Forbes Alison wrote: "Thanks for this! A lot of great recommendations. I noticed nearly all the books are from authors based in the US. Do you recommend books written by authors from the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand..."

Olivia Obrebski Kim wrote: "Why are these mid year checks at the beginning of June? So bizarre."

I read first lie wins and I can honestly say it was pretty disappointing too /:

message 223: by Hans (new)

Hans I would add You Like It Darker by Stephen King to this List. A great read.

Carly-Jay Alison wrote: "Thanks for this! A lot of great recommendations. I noticed nearly all the books are from authors based in the US. Do you recommend books written by authors from the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand..."

Thank you, Alison! You summed up my thoughts perfectly.

Carly-Jay Grace wrote: "As a bookseller in Australia, only a small handful of these are popular over here. Some recent bestsellers in our bookstore are Caledonian Road Lola in the Mirror ..."

Well said, Grace. The list seems to be very American and Eurocentric, and while I understand GR is an American site, it would be great to see some diversity.

message 226: by Paul (new)

Paul Higbee This list seems to be for women. Can you do a list for male readers?
